Why do we "believe," and do what we do?
We have been asked, "Why do you believe, and why do you do this?" The answers may not be quite what you expect!
Here are a couple things you may want to think about.
WHY do we BELIEVE? Very simple. Think about it, when it comes to believing there is a God, there are only TWO CHOICES:
(1) We got here via "evolution," in which case you can throw the Bible in the trash can and forget about it.
(2) We got here via "Creation," and maybe you better not be so fast to throw the Bible away after all.
THAT'S IT...those are the only two choices you get, because those are the only two "theories" there are!! Well, the closer you look at it, the more the theory of evolution looks like "smoke and mirrors." It doesn't hang together very well under scrutiny. (And just where did the material for that "big bang" come from, anyway?) Then, too, do you suppose the "genetic material and codes" for ALL life that we see today were contained in that alleged one-celled, bacteria-like organism the evolutionists say magically formed in the soupy sea when struck by a bolt of lightning? (Oh, yes, and by the way, since we have abundant PLANT LIFE, too, that little one-celled organism must have been responsible for THAT as well!)
On the other hand, the Bible says God created everything, plant and animal, according to its own kind. In other words a chicken is a chicken because that's what its genetic material and code permits it to be...and it's never going to be anything else! What do we see in the world today? Thousands, or millions, of plants and animals, ALL OF WHICH "are what they are," and they are never going to be anything ELSE! The evolutionists have yet to show us even ONE proven example of some species "evolving" into another type species. In fact, the relatively new science of genetics has knocked a few more holes in evolution theory by proving that "mutations (always a favorite of the evolutionists)" are 99.9% NEUTRAL (don't change anything), or DEGENERATIVE (and result in sterility or death). So the bottom line is one cannot explain "evolution" in terms of "mutation;" doesn't work...sorry!
Then, when it comes to CHRIST, there are only two choices here that one need look at to make a decision;
(1) There was NO RESURRECTION, in which case Jesus was a liar, and we can all throw the New Testament in the trash can, and go about our business.
(2) There WAS A RESURRECTION, and maybe you better hang on to that New Testament after all!
From an historic viewpoint, due to archeological research and findings, only the most ignorant people would today argue that Jesus didn't exist, or that he was not crucified at the hands of the Romans. The only question is, "Was there a resurrection?"
Consider these things. The tomb was GUARDED. There was a company of ROMAN SOLDIERS watching it! (And there were very likely any number of townspeople more or less keeping an eye on it, too, if for no other reason than all the attention the event had attracted.) There is no question, Jesus' was put INTO the tomb...of this there is no doubt. There is also no question, the tomb was EMPTY come that Sunday morning at sunrise...there were a number of witnesses attesting to the empty tomb. Both Jewish and Roman historians recorded that Jesus was crucified, was buried, and that there was no body in the tomb come Sunday morning....in fact, Josephus, perhaps the greatest Jewish historian who ever lived, was personal friends with James', Jesus' brother, and Josephus matter of factly reports the crucifixion, burial AND THAT JESUS WAS RESSURECTED. (And let's face it, it's pretty hard to argue with an empty tomb!)
There were innumerable witnesses who saw Jesus AFTER the resurrection...which would have been pretty difficult had he NOT been resurrected! And many of the apostles, disciples and early Christian converts were put to death because they wouldn't change their stories even when threatened with DEATH. Now think about this, if YOU were preaching a lie, and someone came along and put a sword to YOUR neck, and said, "Hey, you change your tune, or you're gonna die," WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Be realistic, you'd have changed your tune so fast it isn't even funny! You are not going to DIE for something you know is NOT TRUE. You would die only for something that you knew was true.
So, do we "believe?" YES, WE DO!! But remember, Satan "believes," too....belief, by itself is nothing..even Satan believes! The way to salvation is through Christ; repentance, baptism, the Holy Spirit, and beginning a new life in Christ......and so we have to follow Christ.
One of the things Christ said was (paraphrased), "As ye have done unto the least of these, so ye have done unto me." In America, today, the "homeless" are among the "least of these" in society's eyes. We feel it is our calling to help those homeless persons who seriously want to rejoin society in a productive manner.
THAT'S WHY WE BELIEVE, AND DO WHAT WE DO!
