A Home Changed through Knowing God
Growing Old? God Never Changes!
I was recently reading a book on the changes a woman experiences as she enters menopause. I came across a statement that said something to this effect: As you grow older and begin to notice the changes taking place in your body and face, remember that God has a message for you. That message is that even though your body will continue to change and grow old ... GOD NEVER CHANGES. That small little paragraph grabbed my attention and I thought about that for sometime. I wondered why the Lord wanted me to know this about Himself. What was He trying to teach me through the added wrinkles, grey hair and dimming eye sight? As I began studying this attribute of God I immediately began to see the blessing of knowing God through His unchangeableness (also known as His immutability).

So, now each time I see a new line on my face or notice more aches and pains than the previous year I find myself smiling as I immediately begin to think about the awesomeness of this particular attribute of God. My God never changes. Who He was yesterday will be the same as who He is today. People may change. People may love me one day and turn their back on me the next but God's love remains the same. His promises will never change. His purposes for my life will never change. He is the rock that I can depend on. The tides of life may pound against that rock but it won't move, it won't budge, it's unmovable. What a comforting truth to know. Can you imagine how different things would be if we could not depend on this attribute of God? Our peace would be destroyed because we would not know if God's Word could be depended on today the way we depended on it yesterday. If God was able to change then there would be a chance that He had changed His mind and that His promises yesterday would not be the same today. He may have meant yesterday that we were saved by grace but today He may have decided to hold our sins against us. But, no, all of God's promises are YES and AMEN in Christ Jesus. What He promises 1,000 years ago remains the same today.

2 Cor 1:20 - For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

The older I become I realize that there is a grace that is needed to grow old in a way that will bring glory to God. The world is doing everything it can to stop the signs of aging. You can see it by the new crop of television shows where women are using shots and surgery to change their bodies and faces back to their youthful appearance. But, inevitably, our bodies will continue to age and the time will come when we breathe our last breath this side of heaven. I want to prepare myself for this final stage of life and to approach it in a godly manner that will bring glory to God. I want to embrace old age through the lens of Scripture which teaches that wisdom is with the aged men and with the length of days comes understanding. Job 12:12.

So my prayer is that the Lord will continue to teach me more about His Unchangeableness during the afternoon years of my life. There is nothing more joyous and satisfying than knowing God. The more I learn of Him the more I desire to know. I pray that this coming year you will join me in searching His Word to find out more of His beauty and holiness. What an awesome God we serve!

God Never Changes. His Word will never change. His promises remain the same now and forever. Praise God!

Mal. 3:6 - For I the Lord do not change.

James 1:17 - Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Heb 6:17-18 - Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
