I attended camp back in the early 90's...does this make me old? I can remember Valerie McGee saying, "mayonnaise, mustard or both" as you went through the serving line. Wow I haven't thought about camp in years.

I have so many memories of camp. I have been going to CYE for as long as I remember. Four years ago at senior wk. me and Jimbo Johnson began to talk and as of June 14 of this year wwe are now engaged. I remember Donny McGee always telling us how him and Mrs. Valerie met and camp. And now I have met the man who is to be my husband there.

Wow - so many memories! The ones that stick out the most to me are Senior Week 1979 when Scarlett Johnson and her brother Rocky gave us a mini-concert on Thursday night in the Tabernacle. Scarlett was an up-and-coming country music performer who had just come off a tour with the Gatlin Brothers, I think? I had also never listened to country music and came away knowing just about every song ever sung by Willie and Waylon after those nights with 20 people packed in a pavillion singing for hours. I remember spending most of the summer of 1980 as a worker, and KP duty one afternoon with Rhonda Smith, JP Valdetaro, Linda Russell, Kenny Rice, Scott Blaylock, my sister Jana, Mary Lanier, Todd Jolibois I'm sure you were in there too - all singing Barbara Ann while washing and drying dishes. I remember Valerie Floyd (McGee) the great snake handler the night a moccasin got in the pool. I remember the parents of most of the kids posting on here now when they first started dating!!!!! But how strange, of all the things you remember and forget over the years, on a particularly discouraging evening very recently, as I got ready for bed I heard "All Through The Night" in my head - and not just the melody. I could hear about 100 voices singing softly on a summer night. God bless CYE - Caryn Fulda

Does anyone know if the camp has a website? I would love to see pictures of what the camp looks like now. It has been years and years since I was a camper and a worker there. We moved from LA in 1983. So that should tell you how long it has been. Thanks for an answer! Rachel

Ok i didnt even know about this site. then my dad found it and we talked about camp yeterday. i miss it so much!!! camp is like the highlight of my entire year. i have made some of my best friends at camp. and it sucks because i live way over here in texas so i dont get to see yall too often. i remember last year or 2 years ago i think, uncle greg was takin me, jake, and shelby home on the last day and it was quiet the whole ride home. i swear there were tears from all 3 of us lol it was great. the weeks after camp are so depressing because you go back to the real world and its all gross and no fun. i cant wait till this summer!!! kerries totally coming with me again! but im going to the youth rally this year so i'll see some of yall in a few weeks! i love yall!

Ive been to Senior Week the last 2 years. Some of my favorite times were singing randomly in the mess hall and the tabernacle, but most of all, i will always remember Thursday night of year 2006. That night i was blesses to witness 19 people become baptized into the family of Christ in one night!!!!! That was probably one of the most amazing times in my life.

I would to say that my favorite memory of church camp would be this past year, i got to make all the weeks of camp this year and it was great to be a worker for the first two. me and the other counselor of jr week, let the kids in our cabin all wrestle against us and they couldnt take us down. it was great. times like these are what bring smiles to my face realize that i do know how to have fun, and everyone says im boring.

Good to read these things and see that people are still having fun at CYE. I haven't been there since 1992. I see a lot of names here that I remember though. I've been away from Louisiana for nearly 10 years now, and have said for a while that there was nothing I missed about it. That was until I read your guestbook signings. I miss CYE.

Ok, I have so many, but here are a few that pop off the top of my head...(more to come). Jr. Week...ahhh, as campers those Thursday night skits. And as workers, those Thursday night songs! Doing midget man with Rob, "Today we salute you..." with Justin, Eric, Katie and I, Whose line is it anyway which was made by Leah but performed by all workers, working all day long and finally stealing a little time for ourselves after the campers went to bed, and of course that first year we were introduced as team captains and got so involved with campers...Jr. week only gets better! Oh, how about way back when we were workers at jr. high retreat and we had about 15 laser gun sets and we played capture the flag and other stuff till all hours? "Hey dude, hold my gun." hahaha. Sr. week...the singing. I can still hear it ringing through the valley. that warm feeling you get when you get into parts and hear everyone harmonizing together as the sun sets. Nothing like it. well, i'll be back for more, but like I said, just a few off the top of my head.

Nicki, Daniel, Abby, M'liss, Phillip, Zach, and Me! Sleepin on the tables in the mess hall and listening to daiels ring tones all night aint that bad. And Nicki, I'm never playing ping pong at 3:23 a.m. with you again! Wasnt the mes hall beautiful? DAniel..... hehe, haha, hoho, tickle-tickle, yeah! lol! Try not to break the tables phillip and daniel! I love you guys! see ya next year! -Hannah Dixie

Remember that song that we used to sing over and over again to Molly Foster and after a while it was getting on everyones nerves...... Fuzzy caterpillar, was crawing up a tree, he wiggled short, he wiggled long, he wiggled right at me. I put him a box! "Now, dont you move",i say! and when i opened up the box it was a butterfly instead! i could never make one, not even if i tried, cuz only GOD in heaven can make a butterfly!! -yey- with the cute little hand motions that go to it! -Oh Yeah- and when we would go swiming and we would stack people on each other shoulders!!!! the most we got was like 4 people!! that was fun!!!!

I love going to camp and seeing all the people that i havent seen in a while. Some of them mature so much i dont recognize them! lol?!? i love going b/c it is such a christian atmosphere, everyone treats you w/ with so much respect! Noone teases you, noone laughs at you, and noone criticizes you for who you are! It is so great! The workers there are unbelievable! They treat you at a more personal level, than just a worker. It is awesome that words cant describe!! Write to me sometimes! Love ya

Ok, this year at Jr. Week (2002) there were tons of memories. The awesome singing, the huge number of people and us stuffing them into the cabins; The smiles of about 125 campers every morning; the midget man returning to sing "the best country and western song he knew"; But i think the best feeling and memory was the friday of camp. The day that everyone dreads and gets there so soon. Among all the campers, there is one that just really gets to my heart! And her name is Alyssa Walker! That kid has absolutely the sweetest smile!! Anyway, when they were leaving friday, she cried and didnt' want to go home. even wanted to take me with her. But i couldn't go... When they were driving off, her mom slowed down so that she could wave at me one last time. When the car disappeared, i felt it. That feeling of loss, and that feeling of the CYE Blues! I cried!!! I couldn't help it. The greatest memory of jr. week, every year, is that memory and feeling that you ahve when you interact with the kids. To see their smiles, and tears! Hear their singing and laughter. And when it's gone, you miss it! And i mean truly miss it! Keep it Real For HIM!! Robin

HEY EVERYONE!! i haven't signed on here for a long time. I think, like most people, i just didn't have time.. My favorite memory about the whole camp year... that's a tough one. I talked about the weeks, way down the page, scroll down, i think it's there...But the retreats, that's a new one! Well, the boy's bathhouse was cold. The girls' bath house, during jr. high retreat, had a tree fall through the ceiling! That was a bad storm that weekend. I mean, i could see it from my house an hour away! The lightning never stopped! And it rained and rained. The trees outside of the boys' cabins were literally touching the ground, and those are some tall trees! I was a counselor the first night...the limbs were hitting the roof of the big cabin and scaring the guys! it was pretty funny cause they thought someone was knocking at the door! well, come to find out a tornado had went through the big valley behind the girls cabins that night! Thank God there were no injuries! but it was a great year! No doubt about it! God touched some lives!

Hey ya’ll, well, there are sooo many great memories from my first year at camp. My first one is for God lighting my path to him!!!!! And for all the others, for meeting all the great people over there! For Mrs. Pollie and Grandpa Earl taking me to the hospital at like one in the morning and just everyone being there when I need them the most! And my dear aunt Tara, you are such a sweetie! To the 2 sweetest brothers I will ever meet probably: and that would be, first of all, Robin, you are just so great and special to me - you know why, too! And to Aaron, boy, you are so crazy and such a great guy! And I have a Jesus award for my dear cousin, Katie. I saw Jesus in you when you were there for me when I was getting ready to be baptized and after and just for being there for me. I love you so much Katie! Well, ya'll, I have to go and just remember the Lord is always behind you - if you ever fall down, He will help you up again! Love ya'll smiles

hey everybody as normal I am the last to have my input on anything. This was deffinately the best camp week ever since the beginning of time.( 40 or so years) I have so many memories of camp that I can't even begin to think of them all, but I will tell a few like when beverly became possed and tried to murder Me and Robin and the funny thing is is that we didn't even do nothing.I do have a little advice for anybody that wants to keep their life, DO NOT WAKE THAT GIRL UP!!!!!!!. the other memory is when we sang in my cabin for about four hours, it ws just too awesome. I need some more badly. Oh well I will see ya'll later if not sooner.

Alright, this year, I have so many. The Sunday night skit. First time, i wore a tux to camp! The Baptisms! GOD iS AWESOME! Singing our doowop! That was fun! Beverly doing a Pete Rose down the valley! AHA There were so many! But I think the one that will stick in my head is the guys singing Thursday night! We were in the cabin, and started singing, then they decided to sing for a baptism that was taking place. At the time we were on our way, Bro. Duane came to get me to go to the baptism. So the guys stood at the top of the hill. After the 2 baptisms, they started singing I stand in awe. Then Just as I am! Let me tell ya, it made me have chills. The girls thought it was the sweetest thing, and I heard Bro. Don say that it was so appropriate! Let me tell you, the Spirit was there!!!!!!!!

There are so many great memories from Sr. weeek this year!! Robin hanging from a rope in the tabernacle in "mission impossible" mode! I've never laughed so hard! There are so many others, too... Bathhouse Devotionals, Jesus Awards, Robin, Terrell, Josh, and Aaron singing, ... oh and my favorite memory of Sr. Week is the look that was on Tiff's sweet face as she came out of the water after being baptized...What a great reminder of what Jesus has done for ALL of us!

well, since i just got back from a week, i can tell a few things that will stick in my mind for a long time! justin douzat fell off the top bunk and had to go to the hospital, so me and justin trahan had to wash the kitchen all by ourselves when it was our turn because we were missing a team member! the whole week, the favorite song for the campers that we sang so much was "quiet my soul" that bro. terry davis had taught us at the jennings youth rally. awsome. that's all i can say! the famous shadrack's, abidnigo's, meshak's, and bob's teams. go abidnigo's! the tug-of-war when a few people had to fall in the mud puddle. the food! the famous "midget man" that me and robin made that everyone says was so funny! bro. dennis and my paw paw (euna jolibois) were even laughing at that. the workers "beauty pagent" skit. there are so many more but, those are just a few that will definitly stick on us for a while! gotta love jr. week! ~hugs~

one of the best (and sometimes aggrvating) things about camp is the anticipation of getting there. for us, it is a 3 hour drive so the entire way, i'm sure you can imagine how excited and riled up the kids get. then, you know you are getting close when you round that corner by the gas station. then everybody starts getting "antsy". then, the butterflies hit when you turn onto what used to be "the gravel road" ) think it has been paved now.) still to this day, i don't think any of us from denham can turn on "the road" without getting that weird (but cool) feeling in their stomachs.

The feeling of peace that comes over you as you round the curve coming into camp. When you leave camp after a week the world outside seems like such an alien place. I come home and the t.v. and news events are all very distressing, I wish I were back at camp.

HONEY CHEX(thats all i'm gonna say about that)...hoovers(yeah Robin, thats you i'm talking about!).... massages(now i'm talking about Aaron!:)).... 7 hours of sleep in a week.... hours on the microphone in the tabernacle with Matt Till.... hours on the tire-swing with Matt again(hee hee!! he pushed me for hours) ....kitchen duty.... sleeping on the baseball field (very comfy if your tired enough).... NEVER enough singing!!.... millions of hugs..... 'mission impossible' to go to the guy's side, bang on the door, and go "housekeeping".....hating to say goodbye to everyone at the end of the retreat or camp, and then counting the days until the next retreat or rally. My absolute favorite memory/event at camp is when someone gets baptized. I've never seen a baptism at the creek, but I know at the swimming pool, they are just amazing. I love hearing that someone wants to give their life to Jesus, and going down to the pool, at night, and Bro. Duane telling us to think about what is about to happen, just send chills up my spine. Then, when we all get down there and start singing, the presence of the Lord is there. It's the most amazing and wonderful experience, because not only do we have a new brother/sister in Christ, the Lord just moves in all of us and we know that He is there with us. It's my favorite thing about camp.

I assisted Tara Jo with her list and it turned into an afternoon filled with funny stories and warm memories. The next best thing to actually being at camp is taking a trip down CYE memory lane. Picking one favorite camp memory is truly impossible but I will say this: to this day the smell of burning leaves will instantly transport me to the bottom of the valley, sitting on a log, listening to the men pick guitars, holding a styrofoam cup of hot chocolate. I can remember wishing that it would never end. After browsing this website, I feel that my wish was granted.

Wow, A favorite memory, that is a hard one. Well I had been going to CYE since I was really little and my dad was the director for some of the retreats. So the memories start pretty far back. I remember thinking that the group my cousin Jana Fulda hung out with was the coolest people on earth. Of course, anybody that hung out with Jana had to be pretty cool to me. But they were always nice to the little tag alongs like me. As I got older though I made my own set of friends and they were the best a person could ask for. Tara named so many that I won't be redundant. But I do remember the watermelon incident, though I can truly say "I didn't do it." As we were all leaving to go across to the field, I fell over a stump and hurt my knee, so Shannon Hubbard(she was always there for me) and I stayed behind. I was never so grateful for an injury in my life. I will never forget the summer that we were camp workers at Jr week and we had so many kids come that the workers had to stay in the air conditioned trailer the whole week. If we hadn't had to peel all those potatoes I think we might have felt lucky. Oh and for those who were there with me, don't forget the rat we had to get rid of in order to sleep at night.Ha-ha. Wow, I could go on forever. There are so many memories. I hope all those friends I spoke of are doing well and I hope some day to cross paths with you again. I miss those days, they were some of the best days of my young life.

well, i'm still young, but i can still relate to MANY changes that have been done to the camp in my time, such as, i remember when there was no deck, the poles on the swings were still brown, they actually had ALL of the comfortable swings up,there was no slab in front of the chapel (rocks/whatever), serving coke out of the coke machines, of course there was no air conditioning, the bell was on a pole, i can barely remember the wall that was added to the kitchen separating the kitchen from the rest of the mess hall, the Jr. week workers would always sleep in the old cabins (when there were more to choose from), the old matresses (they were so comfortable!). there are many more, but i've gone blank. I'll get back to you on that one though. Man, I need some camp therapy right now, speaking of therapy! I love you guys! ~hugs~

Must have been about the summers of '76, '77, '78, or there round about, that old friends/ cousins attended camp together. Who could forget the crazy antics of B.J. Dyer and Gary Carpenter from Oakdale, Thomas Helms and Tim Henning from the Jennings/Lake Charles area, Angie and Rhonda Smith, Kristy Istre, and Lisa LeDoux, just to name a few. It's hard to believe we've all grown up (well, most of us...) and are the ages now that our parents were back then. I can still see Thomas Helms (or was it Tim Henning?) closing his eyes and saying "I'm lookin' right at ya!" or B.J. doing his "Dit out doat, dit in dirl" joke. I know some of you younger folks won't know what I'm talking about, but for those of us who do, I'm sure a smile will come.

I remember those thunderstorms. ONe jr. retreat or maybe it was jr. week but I was a camper, & there was this bad thunderstorm. All the campers were in the tabernacle listening to a story. WEll, we heard the thunder and lightning and suddenly heard this wail like a ghost. When the rain stopped we went back to our cabins. Wasn't long we had to call our parents to come and pick us up, cause lightning had struck the water pump and we had no water. I think it was JR. Week. Cause it was the middle of the week. Bro. Ed Hahn was the director. Man that was a long time ago.

I've just been reminded that, although I've done all this stuff on the website, I haven't even posted my favorite memories!!! So, here goes: the best would have to be during my second summer at camp, on a Thursday nite during Sr. Week I, going forward during the singing of "Have Thine Own Way." The Lord had been working on me for a while, and although I loved the Lord, I thought that my "baptism" in the Catholic church as an infant was "enough". Well, on that Thursday nite, I just let go and let God deal with me, and was baptized in that pool by Brother Stan. I can still remember that feeling of being "washed as white as snow" when I came up out of that water, ready to walk a NEW LIFE in Him!!!

She told my mom that leckey busted his head and that there was blood all over the place. My mom, being the loving mom that she is, asked, "Is he dead?" and my cousin replied no. Then my mom said,"Then he's alright!" At least that's what I've always been told. Accident prone!

Does anyone remember the year Lecky Gough ran into the iron bar of the swing set and busted his head?

ONe of my favorite memories from this past year was sleeping Thursday night. That is the first time in a long time that I have went to bed on Thursday night!! And the only reason I woke up was that a camper walked into my cabin wet from jumping in the pool. (this camper will remain anonymous) But man I love being a counselor. I was awake on the drive home and fully remember the trip this year.

I have so many memories from camp. My first week at camp was spent as a worker at Junior Week and it was Brother Doug Broyles last week their. I was really happy to be their and I got to met some really nice people. I met most of my friends that week especially one person who has helped me through many tough times. Yes, Doc it is you. But my favorite time at camp was that same summer only a month later at Senior Week. I went as a person who did not know Christ very well. But come Thrusday night, I felt that I knew Christ very well. So I welcomed Christ into my life. I was baptized by Brother Donnie McGee. I love seeing a person born into Christ, it's a really wonderful feeling getting a new sister or brother through Christ. Camp this past summer was a blast especially Thursday night. We were all at the baseball field except for Doc, who was sleeping. We seen a flashlight and everybody took off running because we thought it was Brother Donnie. Come to find out it was actually the cop checking up on us. He said we sounded like a bunch of wild horses taking off. Camp is a real blast. I love going to camp and look forward to seeing everybody come Retreat time.

Amy,it's so good to hear from you! Camp memories: Bro. Stan singing solos; Bro. Ingalls leading singing and asking us to take care of camp so that we would have it for a long time to come; spiders in the bathhouse; pranks on the director; gum tree; baseball; Big John; Shirley Byrd singing to us in the morning; Lisa in the tree; many camp songs; guitar pickin' and singing in the pavilion; everyone getting all dressed up for night chapel; everyone knew a singing part and SANG; girl/boy quartet (incl. Penny Comeaux) from Lake Charles who introduced us to "There is a River"; fiery sermons from Bro. Val and Frances Plaisance; after chapel, watching to see who would pair off; crazy stories in the cabin after lights out; Thurs. night skits and shaving cream fights; sad good-byes; after-camp blues; remembering how hard it would be to go back to school, but knowing God was on my side. In the last 40 years CYE must have influenced thousands of people by now. Praise HIM!

Another favorite memory is Prayer Circle. Singing “All Through the Night”. I sing that now to my little ones every night. At the end, I’m always tempted to say “When the next bell rings, go straight to your cabins!” :) Night time was always the best at camp. What about the way it felt to swim at night with june bugs and horseflies all around. The chlorine still burning your eyes while you tried to go to sleep in the old bunks with springs poking through. Heather Sutton and I always had to share a bunk because she would forget her sheets. (From Tara Jolibois Foster)

One of the best memories ever from the jr. week workers, besides the all-time favorite initiations, would have to have been the awesome devotion on tuesday night. At the beginning, the devotion was being headed by Kyle Clark from Mandeville, and we workers were kind of, well kind of, bored. I don't even know how it turned out being so emotional for all of us, but with one testimony after another, eventually every single worker was in tears. It was the most awesome feeling and you knew the feeling was mutual with the whole crew. i think every worker that week could agree with me saying that even though, we are dish washers, custodians, and part-time BABYSITTERS, we wouldn't miss it for anything. even though we get knocked for being rowdy, our #1 job and purpose at Jr. Week is to be great examples and Christian role models for the campers. (From Amanda Jolibois & Robin "Doc" Gough)

Does anyone remember Grandma Broussard's fig tarts? She used to make a batch late at night for the jr. week workers. Man, I can smell them, just like it was yesterday. How about sneaking back to the creek for a swim (sorry Bro. Val, it's pass the statute of limitations for calling my parents) or going to Stark's in DeRidder after camp ended on Friday? Good memories. (From Todd Jolibois)

The best of times at camp were certainly the times spent building those relationships that have stood the test of time. Especially my relationship with God. Those men and women that took their time out and went to camp to teach us about Jesus will never be forgotten. Bro. Stan Broussard, Bro. Val, Mrs. Harriet Lasage, Bo Johnson, Bro. A.J. Istre... Just to name a few. (From Tara Jolibois Foster)

My favorite memories always start with driving through those old iron gates that say “CYE”. I can remember that feeling so well...Butterflies in your stomach because you knew that you were about to see all your camp buddies. Nervous because you never knew just who was going to be there or who your counselor would be.

I remember when two girls (some of you may know one of them)hid up in the magnolia tree next to the mess hall for several HOURS while the rest of the camp was searching everywhere for them. We assumed they had been kidnapped but if we had thought about that for a moment we would have realized that whoever had taken them would bring them back real soon anyway. Good memories!

Hey, remember when the milk was served from a machine? It came in a bag and it was always kind of foamy and sooo COLD!

Call me crazy, but one of my favorite memories of camp were those shaving cream wars we used to have on top of the hill at Jr. and Jr. High weeks. Also, some kids don't agree, but i LOVE it when Bro. Dennis leads singing at Sr. Week. I know he has to have every thing perfect, and to some people it can get annoying, but by the end of the week, we sound almost angelic. He does wonders to our voices and all i can say is it's magical.

Some of my greatest camp memories were this year. JR. Week was just awesome. I had the honor of leading singing. If you have never stood before the kids at Jr. Week when it is singing time and get to see their faces and their praise, it is truly awesome. They don't care about the person next to them or what they sound like, they are PRAISING GOD!! Then there was Sr. WEek. I was lucky to be asked to be a counselor the Saturday before camp. I was a little nervous but it was okay. Playing with two sweet little girls (at least I thought so at the time) I let them tie my hands to a pole. Not knowing that they and another friend were conspiring with me. They tied my hands and I told them it had to be tighter if they wanted to hold me. So they tightened it and boy, did I ever feel like an idiot. A rope was brought out and I was fortunate enough to be tied to a pole and have ice poured down my back. But I started it, with Mr. Tim Kirby at the field. But I just think that this summer really touched me and others and it helped me to see what I want to do and should do to serve HIM!!!!!!!!!

Remember when Bro Ingalls used to drive up in his old green Ford pickup?? Boy I miss him. He used to say "remember campers... if it doesn't fall out of the trees, or grow up from the ground........pick it up!!!" How about the rocking chairs next to the mess hall door......over by the coffee pot....remember??

Remember the sound of people laughing in the mess hall when you were down in the valley at night? Or what about sitting around the campfire listening to Danny Broussard play his guitar at retreats. Mrs. Betty Bundy would always make hot chocolate for us all.
