I guess you could say that Scottie Sexton (Vice-President of Withered Hand Ministries) was used of God to show me some compassion when I was around 15 years old. I never would have thought that he would become a preacher later on in life, but now as I think about it, he had a spirit about him that caused me to be friendly to him back then - even though I would let no one near me.
You see I was an unruly teen that no one could get along with. When I met Scottie, I had just been involved in a shoot out at a local service station with some bad guys. It was just God's mercy that no one got killed. We shot the place up pretty good. Scottie had been there just prior to this and had heard the men say what they intended to do to a friend and me, all the time waving their guns around.I have never to this day forgot how Scottie took me aside and began to talk real sense to me.
Well I grew up on my own living where I could, but I always had a job. I worked on trucks till I got old enough to drive them then I started regional driving for a local company. Later I started driving long-haul and staying gone 6 to 7 months at a time.
I went through a lot back then and had been saved and called in the ministry at 22 years old. I later had a partial nervous breakdown caused by working 3 jobs at the same time and studying my Bible half a night for 3 years.
I really saw a lot of backbiting among preachers back then. They would try to be holier than thou and preach a message direct to someone that they had gossiped on.
This is hard for me but I went 7 more years out in that cruel world as if I was in a nightmare hoping that someone would wake me up.
This is when I had angelic encounters as the Living God was breaking my spirit and steering me to an unknown destination. It was during this time that I stopped at a truck stop chapel in Pa. after just minutes before daylight-attempting to take my life. This chaplain and his wife (Joe and Kris Tackett) had all the right answers to some hard questions that I needed answered. I made it a point to stop and see them on my way from the west coast back to the east coast every week.
I was really driving hard trying to out run my troubles delivering every 3rd day on one of the coasts. It was at this time that I picked up a tape of Ray Sisk (I-20 for Jesus) tape ministry. I felt like the people that had made that tape for drivers really loved them. I picked the phone up to call them but hung up when they answered.
Well, God later rescued me and brought me out of that darkness and called me back in the ministry and had the opportunity to preach my first message in Milton, Pa in The Little Grace Chapel, overseen by Chaplain Kris Tackett.
I then learned that Joe had gone on to be with the Lord sometime after our encounter. I later learned that she had taped this message. Three tape ministries have put it out.
It was a message on God's Flower Garden. Hundreds of people have been saved and have called us concerning this message.
Since I had been blessed to have encounters with the hosts of Heaven, I took the CB handle of Guardian Angel.
It was at this time that I met my preaching partner Joe Trent. Joe and I have done a lot of radio and TV together.
God reach way down below the bottom to make my life count and He wants to do the same for you. Get to know Him on a personal level and you will be blessed as I am.
The ministry, Withered Hand Ministries, was also birthed from my encounters with this Living God, but that is another story.
