COME AND DINE
Come And Dine

Was it just a dream or perhaps a wandering of the mind. I was uncertain. Yet here I sat centered at a lace-covered banquet table with crystal goblets and sparkling water inside them. Before each guest was a simple plate of fine porcelain. Those present consisted of dignitaries from all walks of life. They were seated side by side with the poor and needy of every nation, as well as John Q. Citizen himself. Place settings of the finest quality ever produced sat upon ivory colored premium fibered linen napkins beside each goblet.

In the center of the table sat the Master Of The House. Before Him had been placed the main, and as far as any guests could see, the serving plate which would hold the food. Within my mind I wondered at the plate for it’s value, while surely worth a masters fortune sat empty. Around the rim of the large plate were colors of gold and silver and within its inner borders layers of jewels of every imaginable color. No light was needed for this room for it shone forth with its own illumination. The main surface of the plate appeared in many places to be antiquated and bore cracks running in random directions.

Now I imagined, or perhaps I actually heard the Master speak. “Look at the cracks upon the plate. It’s cracks represent the road of life that leads to the home of each of you my children. This road leads To the home of my child Vickey, and over there lives Ted and his family, Earl and his, Carmen and hers. The list was long and the table was full. There is Ken and his family. He named off many people from both my church and personal life whom I knew and loved; others I found more difficult to know and love, or had not yet made the acquaintance of. There across from me was the Smith family with their sick child and over there an alcoholic and a few homeless others. Some homes were dark and some were filled with light.

Placing His hand near the surface of the serving plate, he pressed a forefinger upon its surface and all the cracks disappeared and the plate became a thing of perfection and beyond value even more then in its prior state. Now the Master turned to each and all his guests and spoke “Come and dine!” As if by magic blessings began to take a huge part of the plates top, then came tribulation which got very busy trying hard to push away the blessings which blocked its path as it tried to take the lion’s share of the surface it was placed upon.

“Chew slowly, My child. Some of this will be pleasurable to the palate and you will want to quickly consume it. The other will be difficult to digest. That you must cut to small pieces and eat carefully that you do not choke upon it. All must be taken in to balance out the other. You alone will decide how it will be used to nourish or destroy your body, which is in reality My Temple. NOW, come and dine”

And so it is that we sit together at the Masters table each day and prepare to consume that which is on the serving plate before us. I know that he wishes for us a final desert or plateful of love to polish off the main entrée. He is waiting for us to finish our meal. The surface of the serving plate is almost empty. Will we have the extra blessings He wishes to give us known as desert ? Will we partake of His Plateful Of Love or feed mainly on the difficult to digest. The plate still holds food. Come and dine.

May God save us all a place at His Table. Come and dine!
