5. Green fertilizers

Plant manure will build up soil when mulched or plowed under

5. Green fertilizers feed the next crop efficiently. When you plow crop residue into the soil it will eventually become humus and fertilizer for following crops. It is a form of field composting, where materials do not need to be transported to a mixing site. Economical on a large scale, it will build up the humus in the soil. You can even grow a crop to flowering and plow under before fruiting to maximize the biomass and minimize energy loss. The first year of renovating cogan grassland we use lots of crop residue and green fertilizers.

Biomass
Watermelon vines can be plowed under after spraying with EM to add organic matter in the soil. When the microbes process the crop residue it builds valuable humus.

Lettuce follows corn
Corn does well as a green manure. It will add lots of ready to eat food for the microbes.

Pigs will also work
If you don't feed your crop residue to the soil, feed it to the pigs. They will convert it to fertilizer also.
