TO ALL US OFFICIALS - UPHOLD THE 10 COMMANDMENTS OR RESIGN!
|
The painful adultery and perjury issues related to the recent Impeachment trauma of President William Jefferson Clinton are well known by Americans. (25) To this must be added the issue of shedding innocent blood by our nation - the vetoes of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban; the Waco Massacre; the use of the U.S. military to strike Third World targets for seemingly domestic political purposes; enforcing barbaric and immoral sanctions on Iraq that lead to the deaths of a multitude of innocent Iraqi civilians; stumbling America into a Balkans War that no doubt contributed to the suffering and deaths of an untold number of Yugoslavians and Albanians; allowing the transfer of nuclear weapons technology to Communist China that may some day assist our foes in taking the lives of millions of Americans. The result, when our elected public officials allow themselves and our nation to violate the Ten Commandments of GOD, tend to the undermining of the entire structure and legitimacy of America's institutions, government and society.

I Kings 18:17-18:
The corrupt King Ahab of Ancient Israel encounters the Prophet Elijah. He accuses Elijah, "Art thou he that troubleth Israel?" Elijah responds with the convicting words, "I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the Commandments of The LORD..." (1)

Who is it that troubles America today? Is it those who live by The Ten Commandments Of God? Some would have us believe so, but I think not. Rather, is it not those who forsake the Commandments of The LORD? How much more so when our elected public officials forsake the Ten Commandments in both their private lives and public duties? Such people and the nations they inhabit then become a law unto themselves, not realizing that such haughty lawlessness only leads to self-destruction for their own lives and for their nation. Many in America today seem to feel that they are a law unto themsleves. Do not many of our people and our leaders today in America so walk, unmindful that we fall into self-destruction? Do we not boast in our own pride, while - rejecting Absolute Right and Wrong - stumbling into error or sin? The danger of such vanity is the self-destruction of our own lives and our Nation.

James Madison explained the relationship between the Commandments of The LORD and America:
"We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all our political institutions upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to The Ten Commandments of God." (3)The importance of America's public officials to uphold The Ten Commandments as leaders of our Nation in both their personal lives and publicly is no less important than for each private citizen. Consider:

Exodus 20:14:
"Thou shalt not commit adultery;" (1)
Exodus 20:16:
"Thou shalt not bear false witness;" (1)
Exodus 20:13:
"Thou shalt not murder." (1)
Jesus Christ directs us thus:
Matthew 5:18:
"...Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from The Law, till all be fulfilled." (1)
Matthew 22:36-40:
"Thou shalt love The LORD with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself…" (1)

Beginning with George Washington - before taking office - every man elected President of this Nation has placed his hand upon a Holy Bible and vowed before God and man to solemnly uphold the U. S. Constitution (14). George Washington observed, "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and The Bible." (3)
John Adams observed, "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion...Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." (3)
Ben Franklin warned, "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." (3)But, if a man can not uphold his vows in his personal life, can he be expected to do so in his public life? If a man has no respect for The Law of God, can he be expected to have respect for the law of man? If, for instance, a public official can so lightly break his or her marriage vows and his testimonies before God and man in his or her personal life, can he or she be trusted to uphold the oath of public office vows before God and man in public life? It is doubtful, as recent experience has shown. It is thus that such public officials undermine - not just the foundations of their own personal lives and families - but also our Nation.
Thus, degrading and compromising The Ten Commandments tend to the destruction of our Republic's virtues and thus freedoms - such as we still have left. How much more so when done by our elected public officials? Does a man or woman claim to love God, country and family? Let them uphold the Moral Foundation of Life - The Ten Commandments - earnestly, humbly and with all due regard for others!

"Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people." (1)

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap!" (1)

John Jay, America's first Cheif Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, warned, "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." (3)
George Mason, known as "The Father of the U.S. Bill of Rights, observed, "...As nations cannot be rewarded or punished in the next world, they must be in this. By an inevitable chain of causes and effects, Providence punishes national sins by national calamities." (3,8,46)Thus, it is written in the Holy Scriptures:

Psalms 33:10-12:
"The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: He maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
The counsel of The LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations.
Blessed is the nation whose God is The LORD; and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance." (1)

In 1940 A.D., as France fell to Hitler's armies, the House of Commons in London, England was gathered to confront the then Prime Minister Mr. Neville Chamberlain. Mr. Leo Amery rose to challenge the Prime Minister, "You have sat here too long for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In The Name of God, go!" (26) Should not Americans now so rise in like manner to address all such corrupted and unrepentant public officials, "Sirs and Ladies, you have troubled America too long for any good you have been doing. Depart, and let us have done with you, for you have forsaken The Commandments of The LORD and are unrepentant. In The Name of God, resign!"
Let any such wayward public officials confess their misdeeds as sins and profess The Faith publicly before God and the Nation. Let such public officials then resign from public office. It is then that they can be forgiven by The LORD and all the American people, thus healing both their own souls and the recent wounds of the Nation! In so doing, such men and women may show true repentance, leadership and courage. Thus may such public officials yet prove all their critics wrong, restoring both their honor and their legacy!
