STREET LIGHTS
AMERICA`S LOST : IN THE LAND OF PLENTY
There.. but for fortune...go you or I.....
There.. but for fortune...go you or I.....
This site is made in the hopes of bringing attention and help to the ones living on the street...The many thousands of homeless... in the 'Land Of Plenty'...25% of which are veterans

We Are Not Cain

Did you ever lay on a mattress of stone
..underneath a cardboard dome
..falling asleep with memories of home

Did you ever lay your head at night
..down beneath the street light
with the thousands in this plight

Cold.. and chilled to the bone
beneath the street light that shone
..just lying there all alone

listening as footsteps passed by
...and did you wonder why
that they heard not your cry

Still they cry ..
and no cries are heard
not one word...why..

... WE ARE NOT CAIN...

Wait

A small short word is all it be…
Meaning maybe two seconds
Or as long as eternity…
Depends upon what one is waiting for
Waiting for a loved one to come home
Hoping they come through the door…
Waiting for a table at a fancy restaurant
Wish they’d hurry
Can almost taste that steak…
Waiting for a meal in a soup kitchen line
Move along, move along
How my stomach does ache…
Waiting for a limo with a fancy driver
Hey, brother, could you spare a dime?
Counting change, waiting for a bus
We’re all waiting for something,
Each of us doing our time…
Child’s waiting for a liver;
Will anyone deliver?
New mamma’s waiting on a baby
Will a daddy show up… maybe
Everyone’s waiting for something
Man sleeping in a cardboard box
He’s waiting for spring…
This is the real world
Haven’t you heard?
To some of us,
Wait… is a four-letter word…

INVISIBLE MAN

His hair is straggly.

His beard is long.

He pushes a shopping cart around with his few possessions in it,

along with the cans he has picked up so he will have money to eat.

Sometimes someone will slip him a dollar or two,

and he will be able to get a good meal.

He often talks to himself because no one will talk to him.

He sleeps where he can find a comfortable safe place.

Those that pass him by ignore him.

He has no home, no real possessions, no place to call his own.

He is a veteran, forgotten and overlooked by the system.
