About Benin Republic
Benin is one of the least countries in Africa with a population of about six million people, but is known all over the world as a cradle of voodoo worship world-wide.
According to Operation World by Patrick Johnstone, publication and missionary statistics, Benin is a country of 6 000, 000 with:
* Voodoo worshippers 54.8%
* Muslims ...17%
* Christians.. 28.2%

The 28.2% of Christians are made of:
* Catholics .21.7%
* Protestants 4%
* Pentecostals ..1.24%
* Evangelicals .1.96%
MISSIONARY CHALLENGES IN BENIN
THE WORSHIP OF VOODOO
Benin is the head quarters of voodoo worship in the whole world. Majority of the people are still dieing in world of darkness. 10th of February of every year is always set-aside as public holidays for this gods of darkness. There are still shrines where young girls are being groomed for the service of this religion of their ancestors.
THE MARXIST ORIENTATION OF THE PEOPLE
The application of Marxist ideology, between 1972 to 1985, which however was not very harsh, bred a spirit of fear and uncertainty that is still restricting some Christians even up-till date. It also has a general slow-down effect on the speed of things as it affects the gospel. Missionary work in Benin requires very patient and dedicated prayerful missionaries.
THE ECONOMY OF BENIN
Though the economy of Benin is fairly improving compared to what it used to be in 1980s. Yet, majority of the undeveloped areas of Benin Republic are without access roads for vehicles, hospitals, schools, electricity, pipe bone water and houses. This has made it hard for missionaries without enough support to get into such cities. For this reasons, the light is still only in very few cities that have seen little development.
This shows the gravity of darkness in the land and that missionaries in Benin are here because of the life of over 85% of people of Benin that are yet to receive Christ, and this really requires every believers prayers, encouragement and financial support.
