Mitzi's Testimony
By Mitzi Guzman
By Mitzi Guzman
As a child I was raised in the church. I went to church up until I started college. In October of ’99 I got a job at Wal-mart in December of that same year I graduated from college. After I got home from work I started staying up late on the internet chatting and not get up until it was almost time for me to go to work.

After a while I started meeting people off the internet. I June of 2001 I met this wonderful guy whom I later ended up marrying. After a while we started seeing each other nearly everyday. Not long after we met someone called and told my mother that the guy I was seeing was married. When I got home from work she told me and I told her I did not know what she was talking about because I was not seeing anybody. When I got to my room I tried calling him. I could not reach him since I knew that he spent the majority of his time on the internet, I was able to message him. I asked him to get off so I could call him, because I had to talk to him and it was important. I called him and told him what my mother told me and he assured me that he was not married. The next day I went to meet him for lunch. When he finally met up with me, he told me that he had something to say. He told me that he was married but in the middle of going though a divorce and that he does have a child. That he had pictures of her all over the house, but he took them down because he thought the by him having a child it would scare me off. I told him that when we got back to his house that he better show me the pictures.

We continued seeing each other through July and August. One day in August I met him for lunch and he informed me that we were going to go to church that Wednesday evening. I picked him up from work and we both got ready for church. We went to Live Oak Church of God, the preacher (Mike Cowart) taught on Matthew chapter 24. We both enjoyed the church and decided to go on Sunday and see how it was. On October 21st, 2001, we became members of that church. Emo joined the choir and started helping out with the Pioneers for Christ on Wednesday nights. In January of 2002 I joined the choir.

Emo and I also started to talk about possibly getting married. Since in November, Tabitha had told him that their divorce was finalized. He told me to talk to the church counselor about setting up a pre-marital counseling. I talked to her and the first thing she told me was that we needed to set a date. I came and told him what she told me which was to set a date. We had set the date for April 6th 2002; after I told him about the date I started telling everyone. I was really excited. Emo still did not realize that the date I meant was marriage and not the date when counseling began. One day he came to work with me, someone told him Congratulations!! When he asked what for, they replied ‘You are getting married April 6th.’. When I went on break he asked me about April 6th. I told him that is the day we are supposed to get married. He broke the news that he thought that was the day we started counseling instead of us getting married. He told me that we didn’t even know for sure if the divorce was finalized. I was upset because this what I had been praying for several months. Since even the church counselor thought that it would be best if we would not see each other alone, for concerns that we would sin and maybe even stumble other brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. I was heart broken when he told me that he thought it was best. He even tried to tell me that we should look at this like Abraham did when God told him to sacrifice Isaac. I didn’t want to but Emo was convinced that if we did. We would prove to God that we loved Him more than we loved each other. Not only that but Emo trusted on God that if this was meant to be God would make it come to pass.

It was really tuff for me after all I had been praying for this man, to be the man I was to marry. On February 5th I went and picked up the divorce papers to find out if he was or wasn't divorced. To my amazement the courts had finalized his divorce as of October 25th 2001 the divorce had been finalized. I showed them to Emo and we went back to the church. During the drive Emo would say, ”SEE GOD justifies us not man, not ourselves, it is better for God to justify you than you trying to justify yourself!!!” I went and talked to the counselor about marriage counseling. We never really got to finish the counseling since Emo got transfered to another city clear across the state of Georgia (Columbus).

On April 6th 2002 we were married at Screven Church of God the pastor who performed the wedding ceremony was Terry Jones. On March 22, 2003 we had a beautiful child that we both prayed for. Ironically enough and Wonderful to say that on our one year anniversary, that fell on a Sunday we had dedicated our baby daughter Sara Jeannette Guzman-Six on that very same day. Two months later we discovered that we were pregnant again. On Februray 25, 2004 we had our second child, Idalmi Elizabeth Guzman-Six.
