#1 IT IS WORTH THE TRIP

When we are hungry, we eat. When we are cold, we put on more covering or turn up the heat. When we are thirsty, we get something to drink. When we are injured or deathly sick, we go to the doctor or the hospital. And we don't settle for garbage, rags, poison or witch doctors.

But why is it that when we have a spiritual need in our lives, we either ignore it or we settle for whatever religious "store" happens to be near by. We meet every need in our lives with more attention and care than we do our eternal souls and the spiritual needs of our families.

Apparently we don't hunger and thirst for God, we don't pant for the truth of God, we don't long for the blessings of God. And if we don't, we will never have our inner man satisfied nor our souls saved.

I encourage all who visit this site, make the trip and sacrifice to be close to God. It may take time, effort and energy, but it is worth the trip.

#2 Moving Upward and Onward in Jesus

Higher Ground Web Church is an effort to provide a place on the internet where people can come for fellowship, prayer, study, training, worship and outreach.

Hello, my name is David L. Gould and I am the pastor of Higher Ground Web Church. Higher Ground Web Church (HGWC) is the internet presence and outreach to the world wide web, of The Church on Higher Ground in Cumberland County, Tennessee.

I take the people and the spiritual needs of those on the web as a serious reality. Four factors which have prompted this ministry are:

1. All people have spiritual needs.

2. God has provided the answer to our spiritual needs.

3. God has established the church to minister to the spiritual needs of humanity.

4. Because some people have not found a church that meets their spiritual needs, HGWC seeks to help fill those needs.

I have been involved in ministry since 1969. This includes; pastoring, teaching, seminars, revivals, youth work, foreign missions, Christian education, counseling, radio and TV outreach. I have just recently started in the internet work and have several projects underway which will provide a well rounded Web Church program.

Bible studies, fellowships for various groups such as young adults and parenting, ministry training, discussion groups, Christian living classes and worship services. We are new at the internet, but well seasoned in the Word and ministry.

There are three factors which will determine the ministries we provide.

1. Areas which are consistent with Biblical and Christian ministry.

2. Areas in which we can provide quality ministry.

3. Areas which are important to the Web Church constituency.

#3 Web Ministry

Ministering on the internet is a real opportunity. I know it takes time and all you see for it are "names and words on a screen" but trust me, these are real people with real lives and your communications help others. Like words of encouragement and prayers. When we post, IM or email, we need to allow the Holy Spirit to direct our words, those words will either build up or tear down. We can be real "builders" in here, so "...be not weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not..." and when you see a need or request, stop and pray a short prayer at least, sometimes the Holy Spirit will move you to longer prayers. I allow the internet to be a dynamic devotional, with it's inspiration and it's many problems. I read, I learn, I meditate, I pray. How much more so in this our family room.

I also am thankful for you when you fill the gaps along the way. I am not always available to welcome someone right away, and when you do it that fills one gap. Sometimes I wish I could be there with people to help, but that is why "we" are where we are. We are God's eyes, tongue, hands, ears...we are God's presence in our own little worlds. That is why y'all are where you are. Lift that burden, "bear ye one anothers burdens and thus fulfill the law of Christ."

If God opens a door of service, walk through it by faith. Remember, sometimes our opportunities bring God's calling and always God's calling brings God's enabling. If God is giving you a job to do, "do it as unto the Lord." Things will go well. Let us know what God is doing in your life and we will keep praying.

God IS all we need. The words come easily, but the reality is not always evident. For us to know that "God is all we need," we need to live close to Him every day. No down time, or vacations from His presence.

I stand firmly on the issue of the importance of the internet. We live in the greatest time in history and we can do from our "study rooms" what use to require long, hard and perilous travel around the world. We can do in moments what use to require months and years and often lifetimes, to do. We can go places that we can not afford, or laws do not allow, or time does not permit. We are cyberspace travelers for Jesus. We "have word - will travel." We go alone...but with the Holy Spirit. We go together (fellowship is two fellows in a ship). We travel the world between classes or between breakfast and work or between supper and bedtime. We take truth, love, hope, peace... We take Jesus to a lost and dying world.

We all have our jobs. I try to do mine with the gifts and calling God has put in my life. I am a shepherd, an equipper, an encourager, a teacher, a coach. I cannot do your job, you cannot do mine, we cannot do each others jobs (though we may even have the same gifts and abilities), but we can help each other do our jobs better. We are "fellows in a ship," the old ship of Zion and we are sailing for that eternal shore. As shipmates, we all have our jobs to do and each one makes it better for the others. We cannot take the place of missionaries, theirs is a calling and gift...but we can do our job as cyber missionaries, cyber witnesses. It may be different, but it is real. It may be different, but it is needed. One does not need to be skilled in media, technology, trained in broadcasting, licensed by the FCC, all we need to do is get in our cyberspace craft and shove off to worlds unknown and people unreached. It is not all there is to the reaching of the world...but it is the part we can do.

#4 Sharing what we receive.

12/29/00 6:13 pm
We are blessed to have so many wonderful messages posted in this fellowship. We have brothers and sisters who daily watch over us and provide leadership which will keep us from being "illegally parked" and being attacked by satan. I believe God wants to use the internet and groups like this kind especially.

There is something we should never lose sight of, God has designed the local church as the primary source of growth and ministry.

BUT THAT PRESENTS 2 POSSIBLE SCENARIOS

1 The local church is not a good option for me.
The first scenario has two facets.

A. A person may not have a church that is truly Biblical. Either the beliefs to which it holds or the lives that are lived are not in line with the Word. As a result, the person does not go at all or they go, but it is not a real spiritual experience for them.

I understand. As a pastor I see a lot of that in this Laodicean period. Jesus said that the Church is lukewarm and He will spew it out of His mouth. There is a way to deal with this problem, but this is not the moment to address it.

B. A person has a good church to attend but they are unable to get there because of bad health, hardship or age.

2 The second scenario is that a person has a good church and is having a good experience in their church. So what is the problem.

Again two possibilities.

A. The person is so blessed that they try to force all of their internet friends into the same mold and judge all others as being unspiritual because they don't measure up to the standard of their local church either in worhsip, doctrine, service or lifestyle. This is unwise and will lead to division. God hates pride in lace, face, place, race and even Grace.

B. A person separates their church life and internet life so completely that one never blesses the other. If God has blessed a person with strong support, they should be available to help others who are less blessed.

So what is my point?
Those with good church life should be eager to share with others without being overbearing.
Those who do not have such a good church life should be built up and encouraged by their internet friends. Hopefully, the growth realized should then translate into help build a solid church in the persons area.

Upward and Onward in Jesus,
David on Higher Ground
