Belews Chapel General Baptist Church
Our Church History
"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable." - Psalms 145:3
"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable." - Psalms 145:3
Belews Chapel Church was founded in 1910.

The Name
Belews Chapel is named after R. Lewis Belew. The church is located on land which Mr. Belew and his wife Bertie sold to the people of the "General Baptist Church at Mt. Zion." (Mt. Zion was a defunct Church of Christ which was located years before on the hill next to the church.)

The Location
Belews Chapel is located on Gann Road, a long stretch of highway that begins at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Skullbone and runs all the way to Milan at the intersection with Middle Road. It is located centrally between Milan, Bradford, and Trezevant.

The People
Belews Chapel has long been an "bigger than average" country church. Average attendance peaked around 1980 when over 110 people attended services every week. Sunday School Attendance is now down to upper 40s and low 50s. Worship ranges from 55 to upper 60s...but we're looking to grow!

The Traditions
Belews Chapel believes in "footwashing," and a Footwashing Service is held every spring.
We also believe in the practice of "open communion." This means that any Christian of any denomination may partake of the Lord's Supper with us. You don't have to be a member of Belews Chapel.

Our Oldest Living Member
Our oldest member who is still with is Annie Arnold Holt. Mrs. Annie has been a lifelong member of Belews Chapel and is a resident at Weakley County Nursing Home.

The Future
Belews Chapel's future looks good. Although lower in number, we have felt the Spirit moving in a mighty way. We are praying to be revived that we may revive the Milan/Bradford/Trezevant areas. We are praying for growth and guidance and God will be good and deliver.
