SLEEPING AREAS: When you arrive, leave all your bedding and gear in the AWANA Games Room along the wall with the double doors. There will be two sleeping areas. AREA ONE: The Youth Room AREA TWO: The Upper Room In order to determine where each gender will sleep, a contest involving ping pong balls and a card board box will be held. GAMES AREA: Friday games will be held in the AWANA Games Room. Fellowship, Snacks, Card Games on Friday and Saturday evenings will be in the Dining Area. EATING AREA: Except for lunch on Saturday you will only be allowed to eat in the dining area by the kitchen. The Saturday evening meal is a dress rehearsal for a godly dating experience. Bring something fancy to wear for the meal. These same nice clothes should be worn to church the next day. WORSHIP AREA: The Youth Room will be our worship area. "The River Is Here" with words projected on the wall will be the focus of our worship times. Please help move the sitting furniture to face the Word Wall, leaving room to stand and worship. SLIGER’S 1000 SPRINGS: Modest Swimwear is required. We are focusing on spiritual renewal, not physical enticements. This event provides the closest thing to a shower you are going to get this weekend. Our special "Dress Rehearsal for a Godly Date" dinner follows this, so clean up real well! TRANSPORTATION: If our bus is not available, we will need private transportation for this event. PURITY AND DATEABLE SEMINAR Alice Schenk will speak at Praise Chapel to the girls. The guys will stay at Paul Baptist to learn valuable dating insights, and to set up the dining area for a very special meal when we return from Sliger’s 1000 Springs. WINTER YOUTH RETREAT January 3rd – 5th, 2003 Sawtell Resort in Island Park, Idaho PURPOSE: SCRIPTURE Hebrews 12:1-3 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds." STATEMENT We will work to destroy false concepts of what kind of life to expect as a Christian, and to build the kind of faith and commitment that will be strengthened by hardship rather than weakened by disappointment. SCENARIO First, we will portray some false expectations, revealing the error. Second, we will portray the attitudes of "Heroes of the Faith" from Hebrews 11, leading up to Jesus in Hebrews 12. Third, we will explore the "Joy That Despises Shame" concept.
RETREAT RULES: POSITIVE: NEGATIVE: R – Respect other’s property and person. Don’t Hurt anyone in any way. E – Encouraging words are encouraged. Don’t Avoid meeting with God. A – Act and react like Jesus would. Don’t Reject adult supervision. L – Love others as Jesus loves us. Don’t Mess up the facility! These are general rules. It should be obvious that, "...he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."
