"THE FIRST RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS"(1/4) ![]() wmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwmwwm LESSON #1 THE FIRST "RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS." 1/4 We are constantly being told that there is no such thing as a righteous man. We are told that there has never been a righteous man. The Bible even says that there is none righteous, no not one. The only righteous man who ever lived was Jesus. Well, it is difficult to argue with commonly accepted beliefs and it is impossible to argue with Scriptural documentation. And any claim that Jesus is just one of many is not even thinkable to the Bible believer. However, a verse taken out of context does not a doctrine make. It is true that there is none inherently righteous (that is, righteous by nature). But the fact is that God's salvation not only forgives us of our sins, it makes us righteous. While Jesus is the only inherently righteous One, all of His followers are also partakers of His divine nature and they are made righteous by the redemptive work of Christ. We might ask the question, "Are there any examples of righteous men in the Bible?" The answer is a resounding, "Yes." I will offer three men from the earliest of human history. THE BASIS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS...SHED BLOOD After Adam had sinned in the garden, he was evicted from that special place of provision and protection. He had lost that closeness to God for which he had been created. Adam had been told that he would die on the day he sinned. Though Adam's physical life did not come to a sudden halt, the element of death entered into his body and soul that very day. It is also true that though he had been designed to live forever, he would not. Instead he would be dead in less than a thousand years. Though 900 years seems like a long time to live, it is relatively short compared to "forever." There is a verse which tells us that "One day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years is a one day." II Pe. 3:8 On the basis of this principle, Adam did die the day he sinned, since he died before one thousand years had passed. When Adam and Eve admitted their nakedness to God, He provided covering for them. He did this by shedding the first blood that was ever shed in His new creation. God killed the animal and used the skins to cover Adam and Eve. The reason for this was that sin demanded death. Blood is the symbol of life, or as the Bible says, "The life of the flesh is in the blood." (Le.17:11) The spilling of blood is symbolic of death. That is why God covered Adam and Eve's nakedness with the skins of freshly slain animals. Remember, before Adam and Eve sinned there had been no death. The killing of the animals was an object lesson in the cost of sin. The taking of the skins was also an object lesson in the covering for nakedness which comes because of the shedding of blood. We read in the New Testament, "without the shedding of blood their is no remission of sin." (He.9:22) It was probably at this time God instructed Adam in the offering of sacrifices. However, it is not animal blood which pays the debt for human sins. "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins." (He. 10:4) Nor can the blood of one man pay for the sins of another man. This is because each man is indebted to God for his own sins and therefore is morally bankrupt. If we cannot settle the account for someone else, then they must pay for their own sins. If they cannot pay for my sins, then I must pay my own penalty. This is where the love, mercy and grace of God comes into the picture. GOD'S PROMISED DELIVERANCE AND DELIVERER God not only gave them an object lesson in His redemption plan through the slaying of the animal, He promised to send them a new start with God. This would come through a Son Who would restore to the human family the right relationship with God which had been lost through Adam's sin. This coming Son would be called, " The Messiah", which means Anointed One. He would be the One specially equipped to rescue, deliver, restore, or save mankind. The first promise for the Messiah or Christ is called the first Messianic prophecy and is found in Genesis when God told satan, "And I will put enmity (hatred) between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." (Genesis 3:15) This Seed would come to the world through a woman. He would not come into this world as the seed of the man, but of the woman. He would be the Progenitor of a new spiritual race, as Adam was the father of the fallen human race. He would be the head of a new spiritual family as Adam was the head of the sinful, human family. The Messiah would have no need for a human father since He would be the Son of God. The woman would be the mother of His humanity, but not the mother of His Divinity. He would not come for several thousands of years, but these things were not understood fully by anyone until the actual coming of Jesus took place. The Seed would grow up without ever sinning against God. He would always be obedient to God. He would be willing to pay the penalty for sinful men by dying in their place. * Do you see that you have sinned against God, that is, you have disobeyed God? * Do you see that you must pay a penalty for your sins? * Do you see that your sins will cost you your life?(Ro.6:23). * Do you see that Jesus died to pay for your sins? (RO.6:23) The Only Thing You Must Do To Be Forgiven For Your Sins Is, "BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND YOU SHALL BE SAVED ![]() |
