PAGE 3 S.S./ORIGIN OF FALSE RELIGIONS #1&2 ![]() LESSON #1 Short Study/Origin of False Religion #1 LESSON #2 Short Study/Origin of False Religion #2 <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> LESSON #1 Short Study/Origin of False Religion #1 Jan 30, 2001 This is a good place to mention something about the problem of religious and spiritual diversity on the world scene today. Some may wonder, "Why are there so many different religions and beliefs about God in the world if there is only one God?" The answer is not that difficult to understand if we are willing to let the Bible be the source of authority. As Bible believers, we know that the world was created by God and that man was created to have fellowship with God. When man broke fellowship with God, God put into action a plan to bring man back into a right relationship with Himself. However, men, not willing to obey God, decided they would devise their own way back to God. First, a working definition of the word RELIGION. Though it is popular among some Bible believers to say "Christians do not have religion, they have salvation" it is not accurate. The Bible speaks of "true religion" when it speaks of man's right relationship with God and his relationship with his fellow man. RELIGION IS A SYSTMATIC BELIEF ABOUT GOD AND THE WORSHIP AND SERVICE TO GOD. With this as a working definition of RELIGION, we can see that there is true religion (a true belief about God and the worship and service to that true God.) We can also see that there are false religions (false beliefs about gods and the worship and service rendered to those false gods.) Christianity is the systematic belief in God and about God and the worship and service rendered to God. THE CHRISTIAN POSITION ON THESE ISSUES -There is only one God. -There is only one authoritative revelation of that one God and His relationship with mankind (the Bible.) -God created man and developed a living and loving relationship with him (in the garden of Eden with Adam.) -Man rebelled against that true God and separated himself from Him (this is called sin.) -God reached out to rescue man from the separation and return him to a right relationship with Himself (this is called salvation.) THE NON-CHRISTIAN POSITION ON THESE ISSUES -In his continued rebellion, man attempted to rescue himself from his separation from God. Cain attempted to rescue himself by making an unacceptable sacrifice, Lamech's attempt at justifying his bigamy and double murder, the seeking of spiritual power through astrology at the Tower of Babel, the developing of the Babylonian, Assyrian, Egyptian, Far Eastern, Mediterranian, and other ancient European religious movements. -Man (under satanic influence) twisted his understanding of God and ended up with a plethora of gods and beliefs: ~ Polytheism - the belief that there are many gods(as among the Romans, Greeks, Norse tribes.) ~ Pantheism - the belief that god is identified with everthing, god is not personal, but only the expression of the physcial forces of the universe; god is in the trees, stones and wind (as among the people of India, the American Indians, China and Japan.) ~ Animism - the belief that souls live in trees and stones and stars and the wind (as among the Africans, far eastern aboriginies and American Indians.) ~ Reincarnation and Transmigration of the soul - the belief that souls move from one physical form to another as from a stone to a flower to a monkey to a man or if the person is not improving, from a man to a monkey to a flower to a stone (as among the Hindu's.) -Man twisted his understanding of his relationship with God and ended up with a multitude of religions. -Man twisted the revelations and communications of God and ended up with endless pagan scriptures. continued... <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> LESSON #2 Short Study/Origin of False Religion #2 Jan 30, 2001 This is why there are so many similarities among all religions, they all have a common origin. But this is why Christianity is so totally different from world religions. Bible salvation is a gift of God's love and mercy, paid for by Christ's sacrifice, while world religion's salvation is attained by human accomplishment. The Bible is the history of God rescuing man from his rebellion and futility while world religion is the history of man trying to rescue himself from his sin, rejecting the only true way of salvation. Bible Salvation is the record of God reaching for man, while world religion is the record of man reaching for God. Bible Salvation is the record of God in His mercy accepting man back because of what Jesus Christ through love, did for man, while world religion is the record of man trying to justify himself through deeds, acts and ceremonies. Bible Salvation is received by faith in the finished work that Jesus did on the cross, while world religion attempts to attain to salvation by personal achievement. As a result, Christianity is the most universal of all religions, crossing color, race, class, nations, ages, languages, genders, academics, economics and any other division among men. But, Christianity is also the most exclusivistic of all religions. There is no other way which is acceptable to God than the way of Jesus. It is not one among many, it is the only one and above all others. In Bible Salvation we are told that Jesus said of Himself, "I am the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father but by me." John 14:6 In Bible Salvation we are told that there is no other way to the Father but through Christ. "Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12 Bible Salvation is universally offered, but only personally received by faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We must believe that He died for our sins. We must believe that He rose from the dead physically. We must believe that He is all we need to be saved. If you have questions about this, please let me know and we will talk and study the Word of God together. God's Plan is that none should perish, but that all should come to repentence. The question is not about the love and justice of God, because that was shown through His Son Jesus Christ. The question is, "What will you do with Jesus?" ![]() |
