Comments:

One of the most interesting aspects of a blog is the ability for a reader to leave a comment. Many times comments can extend the interest of a blog into many weeks of “back and forth” communication. Of course, along with comments comes the need for a watchful eye and the ability to edit or delete comments quickly – especially if there are comments made by “uninvited” readers. The Blog module provides methods for dealing with this problem.

Click the “Configuration” button at the top of the page to set the comments settings and some additional settings for the blog.

Enable Comments - Click the “Enable comments” check box to allow visitors to comment about the messages you post in your blog. If you would like to avoid comments, un-check this box.

Disable E-mail Notifications - By default, after a comment is made, you are immediately notified via. If you do not wish to be notified about comments, click the “Disable E-mail notifications” to turn this feature off.

Comments Display Mode - The “Comments Display Mode” dropdown box determines at what point a comment will be available to the public. You can choose to have the comments immediately available by selecting “Display Automatically” or you can choose to have the comments verified by you first by selecting “Display when accepted”. The “Do not display” option is available for accepting comments, but not showing them on the website.

Items Per Page - Enter the number of comments you would like to allow per page

Verification Image - check the “Verification Image” box to require verification before posting.

Click “Save changes” after all information has been entered.

*Tip: If you are concerned about people leaving unwanted comments in your blog, select the “Display when accepted” option for the Comments Display Mode. This way you can make sure only acceptable comments will be shown on your website.

*Tip 2: Spam is a big problem these days and one way spammers like to send spam is using software to search the internet looking for forms. The software then fills out the form with the spam message and submits it. Using the “Verification Code” option in the blog prevents spam software from being able to submit their spam through your blog comment form. We highly recommend using the verification code option.

General Info:

The blog has become one of the most popular forms of communication in the world today, ultimately influencing world news and even politics. The word "blog" is short for "web log". Blogs can address an infinite number of topic and are used for a variety of purposes from an online diary of personal thoughts and opinions to a type of newsletter for customers to a way for Pastors to expand on their sermon or provide daily devotionals for their congregation. Because of their "dynamic" nature, blogs are also useful for search engine placement.

To setup a blog, login to your admin section, click the dropdown "Add-on Modules" menu in the top menu of your admin section and choose "Blog".

You can add the Blog module to any page using the "Insert Module" feature when editing a page. For more information about how to insert a module, please see the "Modules: Insert a Module" help page.

*Note: The Blog module is available with all premium hosting packages, including the Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Starter packages.

RSS:

RSS – RSS (formally \"RDF Site Summary\", known also as \"Really Simple Syndication\") is a set of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a \"feed\", contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with your web site in an automated manner that\'s easier than checking it manually.

RSS content can be read using software called an \"RSS reader\". The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed\'s link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user\'s subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

Internet Explorer users view feeds on the Feeds tab in the Favorites Center. To view your feeds, click the Favorites Center button, and then click Feeds.
Internet Explorer also provides the Common Feed List to other programs. This allows you to subscribe to feeds with Internet Explorer and read them in other programs, such as e-mail clients.

*Tip: Like a newsletter, the RSS feature is a great way to keep in contact with visitors, keep them up-to-date, and get them to return to your website. If you use the News or Blog modules, encourage visitors to use the RSS feature.
