News Module Layout:

By clicking the “Click to change news system layout” text link, you are given many options for changing the colors, fonts, font sizes, and backgrounds for the news layout:

Background Color: Click the color palette to the right and select a color to add a background color to the entire news module. When you click on a color in the color palette some numbers and letters will appear in the Background Color field. These numbers and letters are html code which corresponds with the color you have chosen. To remove the background color, select in the Background Color field and delete the numbers and letters.

Border: If you would like to have a border around the news module, click the drop-down menu and select a number. The numbers correspond with the thickness of the border with 3 being the thickest. Select 0 to remove the border.

Border Color: The default color of the border is black. If you would like to choose a different color, click the color palette to the right and select the color you want.

Text Color: The default color of the text is black. If you would like to choose a different color, click the color palette to the right and select the color you want.

Font: Click in the “Font” drop-down menu to select the font you would like for the text of the news module.

Font Size: Click in the “Font Size” drop-down menu to select the size of the text in the news module.

Header Background Color: The header background color allows you to have a different background color for your headlines then for the rest of the news module. Click the color palette to the right and select the color you want. When you click on a color in the color palette some numbers and letters will appear in the Header Background Color field. These numbers and letters are html code which corresponds with the color you have chosen. To remove the background color, select in the Header Background Color field and delete the numbers and letters.

Header Font Color: This allows you to set a different font color for your headlines then the rest of the news text. Click the color palette to the right and select the color you want.

Display Date: This feature allows you to set whether the date is displayed with the news articles. By default the date is displayed.
Date Font Color: Choose the color of the font for the dates in the news module by clicking the color palette to the right and selecting the color you want.

Date Font Size: Choose the size of the font for the dates in the news module by clicking drop-down menu and selecting the size you want.

News Width: This feature allows you to make the news module wider or more narrow. The default width of the news module is 160px. Enter a higher or lower number of pixels to increase or decrease the width of the news module. You can also use a percentage. This will determine the width of the module in relation to its default width. So, 50% would be the same as 80px.

*Note: When using a template with the new module incorporated into it, changing the width of the module can cause unwanted layout issues with the template. We recommend only changing the width of the new module if you are using a template which does not incorporate the news module in it.

Show Archive Link: If you would like to save articles in the archive, but do not want visitors to be able to access them after they are archived, you can set the Show Archive Link to “no” and the link to the archive will not be shown in the news module.

Click the “Save changes” button after setting up the desired layout.

General Info:

The news module is ideally suited for the first page of your website but can be inserted anywhere. It is designed to present something similar to the headlines in a newspaper - with links to the other \"newspaper pages\" that hold the rest of the story. There are many advantages to using the news module…1) It keeps your visitors up to date…2) It helps your ranking in search engines because of the dynamic changes being made to your site…3) It adds excitement as it presents the latest in your organization\'s activities. News items can be archived as well so your readers can check an old news story which they may have missed.

The News module is a part of some templates, but not others. For the templates which do not include the News module, you can add the News module to any page using the \"Insert Module\" feature when editing a page. For more information about how to insert a module, please see the \"Modules: Insert a Module\" (link) help page.

*Note: The News module is available with all hosting packages, including the free websites.

What is Displayed :

The news module provides content for your website in two different locations. The placement of the module itself will be the location in which website visitors will see the “short text” version of the article along with the headline. However, when they click on the headline or the currently displayed text, the reader will be directed to a separate page containing the entire article. This is a convenient way to fit many articles on one page by keeping the majority of the contents in a separate location. You can also archive older articles. Archived articles will not be displayed in the news module, but the articles will still be available to visitors by clicking the “Archive” link at the bottom of the news module.

RSS:

RSS – RSS (formally "RDF Site Summary", known also as "Really Simple Syndication") is a set of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed", contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with your web site in an automated manner that's easier than going to your website and checking it manually.

RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader". The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

Internet Explorer users view feeds on the Feeds tab in the Favorites Center. To view your feeds, click the Favorites Center button, and then click Feeds.

Internet Explorer also provides the Common Feed List to other programs. This allows you to subscribe to feeds with Internet Explorer and read them in other programs, such as e-mail clients.

*Tip: Like a newsletter, the RSS feature is a great way to keep in contact with visitors, keep them up-to-date, and get them to return to your website. If you use the News or Blog modules, encourage visitors to use the RSS feature
