Current web standards strongly encourage the use of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) in lieu of font tags, etc. If you have advanced HTML skills and wish to use CSS to format text, you may enter CSS information in each page by the same method as you would for HTML. In addition, many of the features of NE1™ have a "Style" setting. The Style setting is intended to allow members to input their own CSS settings for that feature.

For more information about learning CSS, there are many web resources available. Do a web search or start with this page: http://www.goer.org/HTML/intermediate/style_sheets/

*Note: Using CSS is an advanced web design technique and should only be used by experienced web designers.

Javascript:

Javascript is a very powerful script that can create tools, menus, “widgets”, and more that will bring any web page to life and add functionality making a visitor’s experience more enjoyable. While Javascript can add funa and functionality to your website, many browsers allow Javascript to be turned off. As a result it is always wise know your intended audience before considering its use.

With Javascript there are tags that will set the script apart from the HTML. The tags used to begin and end a script are the <SCRIPT> and </SCRIPT> tags. Usually a script will be divided into two sections – one part that goes into the header of your page and the other that gets put in the body.

First login to your admin page and click the link in the left navigation menu to edit the page on which you want to use the Javascript.

Next, click the “SEO Features” tab in the page settings.

To insert the code into the header of the page, enter the code into the “Additional <HEAD> content” box and click the “Save Changes” button.

To insert the code into the body of the page, you can either use the “Edit HTML Source” feature or the “Paste HTML Code” feature.

To insert the Javascript into the body of the page using the “Paste HTML Code” feature, find the location in the page using the Page Editor where you want the Javascript object to be displayed and click in the area you want to code inserted.

Then click the “Paste HTML Code” button.

In the window that appears, enter the Javascript (that’s intended for the body of the page) in the “HTML code” box, enter a caption in the “Caption” field to name the code, and click the “Insert Code” button.

You can then move the object or resize the object by clicking it in the Page Editor window.

To insert code into the body of the page using the “Edit HTML Source” feature, click the “Edit HTML Source” button in the Page Editor icons.

Then find the place in the source code where you want the Javascript and enter the Javascript there.

Click the “OK” button.

You can then move the object or resize the object by clicking it in the Page Editor window

General Info:

One of the common misconceptions of using a web builder is that a web builder can restrict your web design and limit creativity. With the NE1™ web builder, nothing could be further from the truth. In addition to the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) page editor, NE1™ includes methods for inserting your own HTML, Javascript, and other scripts as well as dealing directly with the html code for the page.

By combining the ease of the page editor with the versatility of using your own scripts and code, a website can become extremely customizable. In addition to the numerous formatting options with the word processor-like interface of the Page Editor, NE1™ also includes the means to add scripts with the few clicks of a mouse or even the ability to design the entire body of the page using HTML!

A word of caution is appropriate here. Using HTML, Javascript, and other scripts can be tricky and should be done by someone who has experience with these languages and understands their use. That said, the NE1™ web builder is quite forgiving and anything added using the built-in script editor can be deleted or edited.

Using HTML in the Web Builder (Edit HTML Source) :

To view the HTML code for the body of your website with the NE1™ Web Builder, click on the “Edit HTML Source” button at the end of the row of icons. This will bring up the HTML Source Editor window.

The word “source” here refers to the source code that makes up the body of the web page. (The header, footer, and menu are all part of the template and cannot be edited in the Edit HTML Source feature.) By viewing the source code, you can add, edit, or subtract HTML or other code. This is done by using the HTML Source Editor:

Simply add or edit the code you desire and press the “Apply” or “OK” button to save it. (The “Apply” button differs from the “OK” button in that it allows you to immediately see the changes to the page while keeping the HTML Source Editor window open. The “OK” button will apply the changes and then close the HTML Source Editor window)

Click the “Cancel” button to close the HTML Source Editor without saving any changes.

The HTML in the HTML Source Editor can either be displayed with each line of code unbroken or with the lines being broken so they fit in the window. Either way the code will work the same. Check the “Wrap Text” box to determine which format you wish to use. With the “Wrap Text” box checked, all the HTML will be displayed in the window, however, a single line of code may take up 2, 3, or more lines in the window. With the “Wrap Text” box uncheck, each line of HTML will be displayed on only one line in the box, however, this may cause the code to extend beyond the area displayed in the window. So, you may need to scroll right to see all the HTML

You can also insert html and scripts using the “Paste HTML Code” button in the Page Editor. With the “Paste HTML Code” button, you can insert a specific piece of HTML into the page in a specific position on the page while using the WYSIWYG page editor. This can be somewhat less confusing for some as you do not have to look through the source code to find the appropriate place to put the code and you do not have to use HTML to set the location. This is especially helpful with scripts.

Here is an HTML example:
<a href=\"http://www.ourchurch.com\">
<img src=\"http://www.ourchurch.com/images/help-occfree.gif\">
</a>

Results:

When using the “Paste HTML Code” feature, you will be asked to enter the code you wish to insert into large text box and give the code a caption. The caption is a name for the code. After you insert the code, the code will be saved under it\'s caption. If you wish to insert the same code on several pages or in several places on one page, you will be able to select caption for that code so you do not have to re-enter the code each time.

*Important Note: The WYSIWYG page editor is not designed to have HTML or Javascript entered into it. If you wish to use HTML, you MUST either use the \"Edit HTML Source\" feature to work directly in the HTML code or use the \"Paste HTML Code\" feature to insert the HTML or Javascript. Entering HTML or Javascript into the WYSIWIG editor may cause unexpected issues with your website.
