The Latest NE1 News
Hello OurChurch.Com webmasters,
We hope your new year is off to a great start! We have been overwhelmed with the response to the grand opening of our new NE1 Website Builder. We are seeing record numbers of new sites built and upgrades, as well as record numbers of forum posts and help desk tickets. There's a lot of excitement as well as questions surrounding NE1 right now, and so in this webmaster newsletter we're going to talk about both. It's a bit longer than usual, but we believe well worth the read.
Please post comments and questions concerning this newsletter in our forums. You can also view this message on the web with color and graphics in our newsletter archives.

1) THE LATEST NE1 NEWS
January 3rd was the grand opening of OurChurch.Com's new NE1 Website Builder. Since then at lot has happened...
If you have yet to read about NE1 and what it can do for you, please take some time to visit our NE1 mini site and read "10 Things You Should Know..."
- Already almost 500 new sites have been created with NE1.
- Almost 250 Beacon sites have been migrated to NE1.
- There have been some minor bug fixes to NE1 and the migration tool.
- There is only one outstanding technical issue having to do with viewing multimedia from Macs.
- A calendar module is nearing completion.
2) MIGRATING FROM BEACON TO NE1
We put a lot of time and effort into making the transition of your website from Beacon to the NE1 Website Builder as smooth and painless as possible. First, we created a migration tool that imports just about everything from your Beacon site to NE1. Second, we made it possible for you to tweak your NE1 site as much as you like while visitors continue to use your Beacon site. Third, we made it possible for you to activate your NE1 site and de-activate your Beacon site whenever you're ready with a single click. Fourth, once you activate your NE1 site, all the web addresses of your Beacon pages will automatically forward people to their corresponding NE1 web pages.
On January 9th many of you participated in OCC's first ever webinar (online seminar) on the topic Migration: Moving from Beacon to NE1. If you missed it, notes and video from that webinar are available online.
To begin migrating your site to NE1, go to your webmaster page and click the "Beacon to NE1" link at the top of the page.
3) JAN 24 WEBINAR: NE1 PAGE EDITOR
Speaking of webinars... On Thursday January 24 at 1:00 PM we will be hosting our second webinar on the topic: Getting the most out of the NE1™ Page Editor. The WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) page editor is one of the biggest improvements in NE1. We'll demonstrate how to use it and show you some cool tips and tricks to get the most out of your web pages. Pre-registration is required and can be done on the NE1 Webinar page.
4) JANUARY AD-FREE SPECIAL
Most people agree NE1 sites look much better than Beacon sites. As a result the difference in appearance between a site with ads and one without is much bigger. Make your site look its best in 2008 by using our NE1 Website Builder and going Ad-Free! This month only, everyone who builds a new NE1 site or migrates from Beacon to NE1 can get the Ad-Free option for only $59. That’s less than the regular 6-month price! In addition to removing the ads, the Ad-Free option also gives you unlimited pages and 20 MBs of space for graphics..
5) $59 DAILY DRAWING
Every weekday during the month of January we’re giving away a $59 credit to a randomly selected site that has migrated from Beacon to NE1. The sooner you migrate your site the more chances you have to win the $59 credit, which just happens to be the same amount as the January Ad-Free special. What an amazing coincidence! Check out all the sites that have already won!
6) VOTE FOR THE TEMPLATE YOU WANT
The NE1 Website Builder already includes more than 140 high-quality templates with varying themes, layouts, and colors schemes. We want to continue to improve the templates available, so every month we will create 3 new templates based on the suggestions and votes of our members. OCC members have already suggested 93 new template ideas. Now the voting begins to see which 3 templates will be created.
Because there were so many nominations, 10 semi-final polls have been created. In one week, the template suggestion receiving the most votes in each semi-final poll will move on to a new, final round of voting. Vote for your favorite template idea in each semi-final poll!
7) SERVER SPEED
Because of the tremendous number of people building new sites with NE1 and migrating their sites to NE1 we've experienced a considerable increase in the load on our servers. That's caused the viewing and editing of sites to be slow at times. We have been working hard to resolve that problem. First, we have been streamlining the NE1 software to make it more efficient and increase its performance. Second, we are bringing another server online to share the load.
You should already be seeing some considerable improvements today over yesterday, and will see further improvement in the coming days.
8) POWERPOINTS CHALLENGE CHANGES
Every month we run a competition called the Powerpoints Challenge where sites score points for things like hits, referrals, completing the monthly webmaster survey and more. Powerpoints also factor into OCC search rankings. At the beginning of February, the scoring system will be changing. Hits on NE1 websites will continue to tally points, but not hits to Beacon sites. Edits to a site will no longer tally points. Other changes may also take place. This is part of our effort to reward those sites that make the move to NE1.
