THE WATCH OF THE LORD:
WATCH:(STRONG'S) night watch, military observatory, guard
deposit, usage, example watch, sentry, post, to observe,
await, to be on the lookout, to keep awake
WATCH:(VINE'S) watch, guard, post, a military watch over
a city, to keep watch, a guarding, watch of the night,
spiritual alertness, be vigilant, to observe.
WATCH:(WEBSTER'S) -Keeping awake in order to guard, to give
a close observation, to be alert.
MATTHEW 26:41-"Keep watching and praying that you may not
enter into temptation; the spirit is willing , but the flesh
is week."
The watch is a military term used to define time during
which the sentry would guard their city from harm, alert
the citizens of approaching enemies. These guards would remain in their place until their watch was complete and another gatekeeper would take their place.
ISAIAH 21:6-9- "For the Lord says to me, "go station the
sentry, let him report what he sees. When he sees riders,
horsemen in pairs, a train of donkeys, a train of camels, let him pay close attention, very close attention."
"Then the sentry called like a lion, O Lord, I stand
continually by day on the watchtower, and I am stationed every night at my guard post. Now behold, here comes a troop of riders, horsemen in pairs."
ARE THEIR WATCHMEN ON DUTY IN YOUR CHURCH OR YOUR CITY?
LUKE 21:36- Keep a constant watch. And pray that , if possible, you may escape these horrors and stand before the Son of Man."
EXODUS 14:24-But early in the morning, the Lord looked
down on the Egyptian army from the pillar of fire and cloud
anf he threw them into confusion.
PSALMS 101:8- My daily task will be to ferret out criminals
and free the city of the Lord from their grip.
ACTS 3:1- Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon
to take part in the three o'clock prayer service.
DUTIES OF A WATCHMAN:
ISAIAH 62:6-7- "I have posted watchmen on your walls, O
Jerusalem, they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till He establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise
of the earth.
DUTY: Give Him no rest and remind Him of His promises.
LUKE 18:1,7- "Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
And will not God bring justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to Him day and night?"
DUTY: Cry out to the Lord day and night.
HABBAKUK 2:1-3- "I will stand at my watch and station myself
on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint. Then the
Lord replied: " Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it;
it will certainly come and will not delay."
DUTY: Record what the Lord reveals.
PROVERBS 8:34-35-"Blessed is the man who listens to me,
watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord."
DUTY: Watch daily, listen, wait on the Lord
