                                                NOW YOU'RE GETTING PERSONAL

“Ye must be bom again." .John 3:7 Why the noted and religious leader went to Jesus in the middle of the night was left untold. Of course. it's only secondary anyway. Jesus was then and is now far more interested in the persons coming than He is in what time it is. After Nicodemus' flowery "religious" compliments of Jesus. which were no doubt made for the purpose of accenting his own position and importance. Jesus gave him the "shock treatment" of his entire lite. He totally ignored the accolades of the famous "theologian". Rather. Jesus turned to him and said. "Ye must be born again." Nicodemus. no doubt. had pre-thought his approach to the "teacher come from God". so that --considering his own stature -- the two would be able to converse on "level ground “. Jesus stunned him by lifting the conversation from the blindness of tradition to the heights of God's ultimate t`or mankind. "God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." ( I1 Pet. 329) Nicodemus learned immediately what he should have known. Millions today are failing also to hear and understand God when He says. "My thoughts are not your thoughts. neither are your ways my ways. saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth. so are my ways higher than your ways. And my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isa. 55:8-9) By telling Nicodemus that he must be born again and that. unless he was. He had no chance for heaven whatsoever. the shock. no doubt. made him think. " You are getting personal now." Truly Jesus was getting personal then. He still is getting personal with everyone of us. What was true for Nicodemus is true for each of us: "Except a Man be born again (that's personal). he cannot enter the Kingdom of God." (That too is very personal.) Nicodemus was steeped in religious tradition. What he thought would take him to heaven had actually blinded him to what it really takes to guarantee us heaven. Are you "caught" in today's religious tradition and thus blinded to the Truth? Tradition says. "Be good; do good works and refrain from doing bad." But God says. "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law. but by the faith of Jesus Christ. that we might be justified by the faith of Christ. and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." (Gal. 2:16) Nicodemus was born again. as Jesus had said. Have you been?

                                                INTRODUCING THE COMPETITION TO GOD

"That through death Christ might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil." Hebrews 2:14 An awesome thought! Pause for just a second and try to visualize your own first face-to-face meeting with the Holiest of Holy. the purest of the pure; yea, the One Who has ALL POWER in heaven and on earth. Notice first just how black black is, when there is no light at all. ln that thought, you can get a little mental picture of man's true feeling when comes that day. lt is already on God's schedule (Acts 17:30-31), and everyone of Adam‘s race will "stand before God." (Rev. 20:11-15). However. while on this earth, the child of God - no longer in Adam's condemnation - (l Cor. 15) must face many adversaries to the faith in Christ Jesus. Those adversaries are avid competitors to God, His word, His people and His work. More accurately than modern technology can forecast the weather, the results of these competitors being introduced to God, can be foretold. Remember, Jesus called them by many names and it's by one's name that he or she or they are introduced. The Lord called them all, "the gates of hell". How amazingly correct. After all, heaven has only one competitor- hell- no other. Yet hell has many gates. When those gates are open, out comes every unclean, wicked and cunning deceitfulness of the devil -the arch competitor - can devise. With these, Satan goes after the whole world, but especially the saints, to devour them, (I Pet. 5:8) All these "competitors", when face to face with Truth "Christ is the Truth" (John 14:16) can't stand it. Look at what‘s coming out of the gates of hell today! I just counted over 50 gates that Satan is spewing out of. Read these passages, (they will enlighten and shock you into reality) Rev.12:12, Rom. 1, ll Tim 3, Matt. 23. The child of God can rest on James 4:6-8. "Resist the devil (by) drawing nigh to God and the devil will flee from you." Introduce God‘s competitor to your Savior and you will be "withstanding the devil". (Eph. 6)

IF IT'S A LEMON, MAKE LEMONADE

“To appoint unto them that mourn In Zion, to give unto them beauty of ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness...that the Lord may be glorified." Isa. 61:3 Probably there is no one who hasn't been disappointed with something they had purchased, or had been given - from a car to tricycle, from a new roof to a new sidewalk, or from a new carpet to an electric can opener. It's not that they wear out; that's expected of everything. Rather, It's because the product just did not Live up to the claims made for it. Hence, they are called "lemons". That's because a lemon by itself is not sweet and can be quite bitter, though they still have valuable usages. There are other "lemons" we may sorely dislike. These can be people, agreements, commitments, promises, vows. Each of them have been known to "tum sour". So whatever, it becomes a "Lemon". The danger now is whether or not you are going to handle the situation properly or let lt make you bitter and sour. Literally, thousands of professing Christians have their lives and testimonies shattered through the self-destruction pattern of embroiling hate, pledging never to forget it and even more, to seek vengeance against "that lemon". God's Holy Word, however, warns His children not to deal with problems like the world does. He says rather, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." (Romans 12:19). The Lord cautions us about, "I'll get even if it's the last thing I ever do." That spirit and attitude affects your entire life, as well as your family. Even the children grow up with the same beligerentcy. The word of God gives us the following instructions for victory in this type of situation. When followed, you will be turning your lemon into lemonade. Hate, wrath and strife, (Gal. 5:20). "Be ye angry, and sin not. (Eph. 42 26). Let all bitterness., and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put awayfrom you, with all malice; forgiving one another. (Eph. 4:3’l). Following the Scriptures is the sure way of turning your lemons into lemonade. Anger is a pit you dig for another, But you end up in it and must then suffer; So hold your peace and forego a tirade, Else you can't turn lemons into lemonade.

THERE IS VERY LITTLE WATER LEFT

"The river of God which ls full of water." Psa. 65:9"...brought water to him that was thirsty." Isa. 21:14 It was in the mail recently that I received a strong plea for money for a certain people In another country. The caption on the well-prepared brochure was the title I'm using here, namely, "There is very little water left". The story of want and of need struck me deeply, even though it was not new. Water has always been a problem for mankind. Moses had it while leading Israel across the desert for 40 years. Many lands still have a grave scarcity of it. Countries have gone to war over it, and states In our country have gone to court over it, as have Individuals. It would be a gross understatement to say that water or no water, is not important. Without it, people die, sometimes alone and sometimes by the thousands. If you have a heart at all, you will be moved at these tragedies. Truly, there is very Little water left. There is, however, a more tragic matter than that which dominates this world. It is the lack of the soul-saving water (the Word of God). Eph. 5:26 When the disciples asked Jesus about where He wanted them to prepare for the Passover Feast, He told them to "go ye into the city and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water, follow him. And wheresoever he shall go in, say unto the good man of the house, 'the Master saith, where is the guest chamber where I shall eat the Passover with my disciples.”' Luke 22:10-13. We all know of course that the Passover was a type of the cross - "Christ our passover was sacrificed for us." (I Cor. 5:7). In the man's pitcher Jesus said would be water. Just water - not sticks, or sand or dirt or leaves --just plain unadulterated water - nothing added and nothing taken away. Jesus said to them, "Follow him". Sad It ls today that there are so many places called "churches", many men (and women) called "preachers", but as far as God's word being preached, rightly divided (II Tim. 3:16), there ls very little pure "water" left. That is most grieving when you know people without it are eternally lost. Jesus said, "Whoso ever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting llfe" (John 4:14). God give us more men with God's pure heavenly water.

                               VOLUNTEERS COMMIT TO ENVIRONMENT

"For ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter. But within they are full of extortion and excess." Matthew 23:25 Today the loud theme being pushed everywhere is "Save Planet Earth". These cries come from groups devotedly working -- many as volunteers -- to "save" either the air. The water, the atmosphere as a whole or else, they say, we will leave our children and grandchildren a world of pollution that can only be a killing force. Jesus, in the text above, made no mention of the polluted air. Water or atmosphere, Instead, He went right to the heart of the matter. He told the religious leaders they were far more interested in the "outside" pollution than in the "inside" pollution. Millions today still do the same: they clean up the outside but never tend to the inside. Jesus told them that by their actions and work the' could fool lots of people. He also let them know that they could not fool Him, for He said. "man looks on the outward appearance. But God looks on the heart." (I Sam. 16:7). He most certainly sees the heart and its true condition. for He said. "That which cometh out of the heart defiles (pollutes) the man. For from within, out of the heart of man proceeds oil thoughts. Adulteries, fornication, murders. thefts. covetousness. wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye. blasphemy. pride...all these evil things come from within and defile (corrupt)  the man." (Mark 7:20-23). What pollution of heart and life! Just as there are thousands of volunteers today. committing themselves to cleaning up the environment of the earth. Air. Water. Etc.  there are also volunteers committed to the clean-up of their polluted hearts, minds and souls. They hear Jesus' invitation. "Come unto me, be thou clean. Go and sin no more. (Matt. 11:28  Matt. 8:8. John 8:11)and they commit to brine about the clean environment of their soul to trusting and receiving Christ and His shed blood. Only when some learned of the hundreds getting  infectious diseases swimming-. in the sewer water of Los Angeles and Long Beach. California beach  areas, did the thousands of bathers stop swimming there. They then committed to volunteer for clean water beaches. So also, when you see what the sewage of sin is doing to the masses should you voluntarily commit yourself to a clean-heart environment. It is assured by divine cleaning the blood of Jesus Christ. God the Son, cleanest us from All sin.” the soul's pollution; (1 John I: 7)

"How long halt ye between two opinions'?" I Kings 18:21 The real truth is, we don't have attitudes, attitudes  have us. The clearest definition of attitude in the negative is "infected opinion". In other words, it doesn't make a hit of difference what You say to me_ "my mind is already made up and solidly set." You may have had a wrong done against You. Instantly You publicly or secretly decide, "I'll get even one day." That's an "attitude of revenge". Someone has told an untruth about You in order to hurt you (and justify themselves) and when you learn of it: anger. disdain and even hatred form in your heart and mind. That then is the "attitude of broken relationship, broken fellowship and even broken family relationships. In a larger circle of meaning. that is the "attitude of unforgiveness". Once a lady of 38 Years called me on the phone about a matter that had her greatly frightened. Her 65 year old mother was dying in the hospital. I knew the mother: had visited her quite often. She was a dear saint of God, as was the daughter. However, the two sons (the brothers of the lady who called me) were at great odds. Because of the mother's condition, both sons were notified that if they wanted to see their mother before she died, they must come at once. One had a long day's journey: the other two days. When the first one arrived, he told his sister of the last time the two brothers were together. They had fought viciously and they parted with bitter words. The brother who was to arrive the next day had told him after their fight and when the parted. "The next time I lay my eyes on you I'm going to kill you, whether it's tomorrow or 50 years from now." That's the reason the sister had called me. She thought that if I was there when he arrived, he might not kill his brother. They knew he had the "attitude of revenge" and they were living in fear. I was asking myself the question: "Will the killing take place at the sisters home or in the street or in their mothers hospital room. etc." But God! There's no other explanation for the turn of events and the ultimate victory. I told the two to go on to the hospital about two hours before the "avenger" would arrive and I would stay at the house until he arrived. Then I could talk to him and with God's help, get his mind changed. He came: we talked. I rode with him to the hospital. His gun was in the glove compartment. While still parked in front of the hospital. I gave him God's word. Suddenly he dropped his head on the steering wheel and wept sorely as he asked God to "take away my bitterness and intent to murder, and help me to make my mothers departure joyous by telling her I've been saved now and forgiven everybody." I saw him embrace his mother and tell her, and then he looked at his brother. Then he embraced him saving. "there's no hatred left. God took it away when I was out in the car, before I came in." What a victory!!

THE WORLD IS NOT A THEME PARK "...this present evil world."

Galatians 1:4 Let's ride the ferris wheel, now the train. Then  the bumper cars. Now let's take in the waterslide: then we will go to the flying star before we get on board the loop-d-loop. and if we survive that, we'll be ready for the most challenging and most fun of all, the mile-long roller coaster! That's the measuring stick for many lives today. They desire to go here, do this, go there, do that -- always seeking some fun, some thrill and more and more amusement. To them, this world is a theme park, simply a recreation time. A theme park may not only be mind-boggling with technology at work in every facet thereof, together with the sights and sounds. but it can be mind-captivating. The realities of this life will ultimately convince one that "all that glitters is not gold". Gold lasts on and on but the fun life -- that theme park life -- will tarnish. Just across the road there's a hospital. Around the corner, there is a Bible-believing church. One-eighth of a mile farther is a retirement center. Its across the street from a nursing home. Just over the small hill and around a short curve is a funeral home. located right at the edge of the cemetery. There are no exceptions. It is APPOINTED unto man once to die and after this the judgment." (Heb. 9:27) So, if we are wise, we will pause long enough to look at both sides of our existence here. When we do so honestly_ we'll discover that Satan uses the bright lights of the fairway, with it's sights and sounds. to "blind the mind, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. (II Cor. 4:4) The Divine warning in Col. 2:8 says. "Beware lest any man spoil You through philosophy and vain deceit. after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and NOT AFTER CHRIST." Since God's way is the best way, it would do us all well if we took Him at His word. especially since everyone must meet Him face to face. In I John 2:15-17, we are instructed as follows: "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For ALL that is in the world, the lust of the flesh. and the lust of the eves, and the pride of life, is not of the Father. but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof., but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”

WHEN RIPPLES MAKE WAVES ".. a busybody in other men's matters."

I Pet. 4:15 "... and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not." I Tim. 5:13 Both the Apostle Paul and Peter had many experiences in their capacities as pastors and teachers of the word to the churches, as well as handling the deportment of the saints among themselves. As our co-texts above reveal, busy bodying — which we now call "gossip" was a major contributing factor to dissention within the congregation. A small ripple (a whispered remark) thought to be altogether innocent can result in a tumultuous storm. Let's face facts that we know (by scripture and experience); gossip is the snake that poisons everybody. The poison snake of gossip has toppled governments, wrecked marriages, split churches, ruined careers, smashed reputations, severed friendships, caused headaches, nightmares, indigestion, spawned suspicions, generated grief, sent innocent people weeping to their pillows, brought on nervous breakdowns, has stolen away life's serenity. Even the name of this poison snake — "Gossip" - - has a hissing sound — Gossip. There are many different stripes in this snake's work. There is phone-gossip, office-gossip, church-gossip, party gossip, club-gossip, shop-gossip and neighbor-gossip. They make headlines and headaches! Before you repeat a story, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it fair? Is it necessary? If not, shut up! Do it for yourself as well, for the scripture says, "The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth." (Prov. 16:23). Jesus also said, "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." (Matt. 12:34). In holding your tongue, you will do everybody some good! They deserve it as much as you do.

"Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad." (Prov. 12:25). And lastly, "He that refraineth his lips is wise." (Prov. 10:19).
