AT THE CROSS

At the cross where Jesus touched me
At His feet my sins I lay,
On that hill of terrible suffering
Where the Price for sin He paid.
On my face before my Master
Just one touch Oh Lord I plead,
Then His Holy Blood swept o’er me
Washed me clean and filled my need.
Guiding souls to old Mount Calvary
Where upon my Jesus Died,
On the Cross raised high and watching
My lost wretched soul He spied.
Then He called my name so sweetly
As with pain His Blood Did Flow,
There I knelt before my Jesus
And was Washed as White as Snow.
As His Holy Blood Swept Through me
Oh my Lord What Sweet Release,
As His Holy Blood Swept Through me
All my fear was turned to Peace.
Then I stood beside The Master
Outside the tomb so stark and bare,
Then I stood with Him in Heaven
Forever Home, Eternal There.

WHEN ALL SEEMS LOST

When trials of life come crashing in
And life seems at its worst,
I think of Christ upon the Cross
And know He suffered first.
My thoughts go back to Abraham
Back to his battle won,
When through his faith he offered up
His precious loving son.
I think of those throughout the years
Who suffered too, like me,
Yet strong they stood upon the Rock
Tis Christ who sets us free.
I think of Paul in Scriptures old
Who prayed for sweet release,
But found instead in suffering
Through Christ there’s Holy Peace.
When weak I’m strong through Jesus’ Name
On self I can’t rely,
When all seems lost I look above
Towards my home up in the sky.
When all seems lost I grasp His Cross,
And know He’ll keep me from all loss,
As at His Feet my all I toss,
Sheltered by His Hand.
Free from fear I worship Thee,
O Christ my King who set me free,
Upon my knees before Thy Tree,
Redeemed Forevermore.

WHEN WE STRAY

Grazing on the grass so plenty
But one, within the shepherd’s flock
Being cared for oh so gentle
The wolves at bay the Lord does block.
But greener pastures beckon to me
Fragrant clover do I smell
And soon the sheepfold I am leaving
Temptations sent from deepest hell.
Unconcerned I travel forward
Seeking pastures oh so sweet
Then the fragrance turns to sulfur
As then the hounds of hell I meet.
Trying hard to find some shelter
The safety of the sheepfold gone
The hounds of hell at heels are nipping
I’m terrified and all alone.
Then the hungry wolves are crouching
Ready for my life to take
I realize and cry for mercy
Knowing full now my mistake.
Cry’s of panic in the wolf pack
With yelps of pain they try to flee
I’m trembling, shaking, His Mercy Showing
As The Shepherd rescues me.
Draped across His neck and shoulders
Held in place by nail pierced hand
Homeward bound toward true green pastures
Heading for sweet Canaan’s land.

I STAND AMAZED

I stand amazed beneath the form
of Calvery’s Rugged Tree
Where Jesus Christ The Son of God
did Give His Life for me
Where all our sins were nailed up
Cleansed Within The Blood
As Saving Grace Flowed From my Lord
Eternal Saving Flood
Suspended high above the earth
betwixt the stars and man
The Holy Spotless Lamb Of God
Completed His Great Plan
That once for all by His Great Gift
mankind could finally be
Redeemed and Bought no more to roam
that we could all be free
That we could freely seek His Face
and in His Presence stand
As washed within His Holy Blood
we head for Heavens Land.

SHADOW OF THE CROSS

I walked one night through bitter storms
no shelter to be found
Then up ahead I thought I saw
a shadow on the ground,
It seemed to me an eerie sight
my soul was in distress
"Come to me," I thought I heard
"and I will give you rest,"
The voice was as a Ghostly Wind
it blew its way inside
"Call on Me," twas louder now
"Forever I'll abide,"
Fear I felt increase like doubt
my mind was at a loss
Then I saw and fell within
The Shadow of The Cross.

WHITER THAN SNOW

Blessings of mercy around me now fall
as kneeling in prayer to Jesus I call
Lost in His Presence with hands lifted high
glimpses of rapture I see bye and bye
Heaven descending to meet man on earth
His sweet wind is blowing, a new life takes birth
Washed by His Blood that Freely Does Flow
Lost in His Presence now Whiter Than Snow

THE SPARROW
by
Rev. S.R. Elwood

Slowly oh slowly
the bird takes to wing
The Victory of Victories
with bird song he sings
Though but a bird
he shall not know loss
Though just a sparrow
he knows of the cross
Stupid old humans
he thinks as he flies
They killed The Master
with sorrow he cries
Then on the day
while dwelling on doom
Tired and weary
he slept by the tomb
At the earth's shaking
he opened his eyes
Ten Thousand Angles
Were Shouting, ARISE
I saw The Master
Arise And Go Free
Yes, I am that sparrow
and He Watches me.
So when I am singing
my sweet sparrow song
Jump in and join me
and sing right along
For I am Praising
my God Up Above
Who clothes and feeds me
with eternal love
But, Oh to be human
His Mercy To Know
To daily go forward
His Great Love to Show
To be able to speak
and tell what I saw
When Jesus Arose
Fulfilling the Law
But, I'm just a sparrow
and ever will be
Alive with His Music
airborne and free
Singing Sweet Victory
not ever of loss
Singing of Love
our Lord and The Cross.

WHEN TWILIGHT COMES
by
Rev. S.R. Elwood D.D.

The birthing process is the dawn
Of this thing that we call life,
Preceded by the marriage of
A husband and a wife.
Though some upon this planet earth
Say other ways are right,
But God destroyed those in the past
Because of sinful blight.
Man and wife we’re supposed to be
Joined in the bonds of love,
Doing good and living for
Our Savior up above.
So someday if you are not right
When you hear death’s drums,
Where will you wind up my friend
When your twilight comes?
If in sin you live your life
While within the day,
When you stand before God’s Throne
What will you then say?
Nothing will protect your soul
When you hear death’s drums,
If on Christ you’ve not believed
When your twilight comes.

WHEN LIFE BEGINS TO FADE
by

Within the scope of nightmares realm
Where demons, lost souls overwhelm
Who’s the Master of your helm?
When life begins to fade?
Are you safe or drifting free
In the tumult of life’s sea
Who will answer your helps plea
When life begins to fade?
Have you knelt before The Cross
The only safety from all loss
Or will your soul in Hell God Toss?
When life does fade away?
Choose eternal life today
Before Jesus all your sins now lay
Cause’ on The Cross the price He paid
Where He Did Give His All
Lift your voice upon Christ call
Before into the pit you fall
Let God mend your every flaw
Before life begins to fade
Tis one warning you receive
Upon Jesus Christ you must believe
Or in eternal pain you’ll grieve
When life begins to fade.

LIFE’S CHOICES
by
Rev. S.R. Elwood D.D.
© 2003
We all muddle through this thing called life,
Each day, each moment, each decision, each choice
Clouded with conflict and strife.
We try to do what we know is right, decent and good,
Most of us, some of us, as we travel each day
Decisions from what we will say and do, even our food.
We make heaven on earth or even sometimes hell,
For ourselves, for others; ones we love or dislike
The reasons why we do certain things only we can tell.
But though we shuffle through this life as sure as we can,
The only difference we can make is if we know a certain man.
This person though human is not as are we,
This man came from the throne of God
And died for us all on an old rugged tree.
We who know Him tell others about Him when it suits our need,
But why do we shirk our heavenly calling at times?
Why do we neglect those we meet who are in need?
Would Christ? Did Christ? If so what would be our eternal lot?
Why do we let others He died for leave this world in sin?
Is our disobedience knowingly part of the tempter’s plot?
If you bear the name and Blood of Christ upon and within you
To His Cross, to all He came to save
You will strive to be true.
But alas the dilemma, the human equation, the catch-22 from ages old:
CHOICE!
CHOOSE YE THIS DAY WHOM YE WILL SERVE
Stand true with your back to His cross,
Reaching to those lost
And though you stumble and fall; Get Up
In your faith and goal, never swerve.

WITHOUT THE CROSS
by
Rev. S.R. Elwood D.D.
© 2003
Without the Cross there is no mercy
Without the Cross we’re still in sin
Without the Cross there is no healing
Just filth without and filth within.
Without the Blood upon the mantle
Without the Blood upon the tree
Without the Blood shed by Christ Jesus
There is no hope for you and me.
Without the Mercy of The Father
Without the Gift of Love divine,
Without the Cross upon Mount Calvary
The curse of death is yours and mine.
But Praise The Lord we’re bought and paid for
Yes Praise The Lord we’re free from sin,
Just Praise The Lord who rose Eternal
And through His Spirit He Lives Within.
Within the hearts of all who seek Him
Within the hearts of dust and clay,
Within the hearts where we must worship
Within your heart call Christ today.
O Let the Holy Blood of Jesus
Flow within and cleanse your sin,
Call on Him and He will hear you
He will hear and live within.
Prepare right now for life eternal
Prepare right now where you will stay,
Prepare your heart for Christ to enter
Live Forever and a day.
We all shall live for there’s no ceasing
We all shall live and never die,
But will you live in peace with Jesus
Or live in Hell and in torment cry?

WHEN I FOR MERCY CRIED
by
Rev. S.R. Elwood D.D.
© 2003
Darkness filled my life completely
Sin was rampant everywhere,
Depression was my one companion
I was alone for no one cared.
I strove to change but could not do it
I tried to stop the things I did,
I tried to make those all around me
Believe that I was really good.
But they could see through my deception
They could tell I was a fake,
So I tried harder ever harder
Until I took all I could take.
Then I cried up into heaven
Lord if you’re real change me I pray,
If you will forgive my sinning
Make me new right now today.
Right at first a small beginning
Right at first there was no change,
Right at first I was discouraged
Then I cried out in Jesus Name.
Then His Mercy fell upon me
As at His Cross I knelt to pray,
And then His Holy Blood Swept o’er me
And washed the stain of sin away.
Follow me to old Mount Calvary
Kneel before that Rugged Cross,
Let my Jesus enter in you
And save your soul from sin and loss.
O call upon the Risen Savior
Call upon God’s Holy Son
Let His Holy Blood now wash you
And with His Spirit become one.
