A LETTER FROM THE PASTOR
This year we’re going to try something new – at least for Saint Augustine – to mark the season of Lent. We are planning a Parish Lenten Retreat – but one I think will be unlike any to which most of you have been accustomed.
Each Monday evening for five weeks –March 10 through April 7 – we will host a program from 7:00 p.m. until approximately 8:15 p.m.. Each will have a different speaker, who will focus on the Lenten scriptures and on applying the principles of our Catholic faith to meeting the challenges of everyday life. The speakers we have lined up are all excellent, and I think you’ll enjoy them. In the next few weeks we’ll introduce each of them in the bulletin.
These speakers will give us some food for thought, but they are not the entire program. There will be time for individual reflection and group discussion and prayer following the Quest booklets published by the Archdiocese of Hartford. We will be set up downstairs instead of being in the main church to accommodate this more informal format.
I realize that this is not the type of parish retreat that most of you are used to, but I have quite a lot of experience with the process and would like to introduce it to you. I have found that most people who participate come to love the experience. Not sure? I’d ask you to come to one session – preferably the first one, on March 10, and give it a try.
My hope that participating in the Parish Lenten Retreat will do several things for you – help you to slow down and prioritize your life; gain a new appreciation for the scriptures we read on the Sundays of Lent; get more tuned into the presence of God in your life; give you an opportunity to discuss your beliefs with others, and get to know other members of our Saint Augustine community.
Ann and Phil Lohr are spearheading this event as a first step that our Parish Council and I are undertaking to expand Faith Formation in our parish. Ann and Phil would be happy to answer any questions you may have—as would I. You can reach Ann and Phil at: 860-430-2105 or email@example.com or “Coffee and…” on March 2nd. And you know where to find me!
