"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil." (Eph. 6:10-12) One morning I was given an opportunity to set a captive free from Satan’s hold. My phone rang at two am. I picked it up and heard the panicked voice of Steve, a young man I knew. “I’m really in trouble. There are demons all over me and in the room. You have to come over to my apartment now! I've been saying the name of Jesus and nothing changes. I need you to come and pray. I took some drugs. I'm standing at the gates of Hell and I"m being pulled in. I've called on Jesus to help me, but He's not. My roommates are here and we are really scared." I answered, “I’ll be right over." At that moment, the Holy Spirit gave me a Word of Knowledge about the situation. I said to Steve, "Stay in your apartment. Don't try to run away from the demons. Their plan is to get you into a car and harm you through an accident. Don't leave. You're safer in the apartment. Stay there. I'm on my way."
While driving to the apartment, I prayed asking the Lord to go ahead of me to fight this battle. As I knocked on the apartment door, a supernatural boldness instantly filled me. I wasn't sure what I was about to confront, but I knew the Lord was on my side. As the door opened, to my horror Frank’s skin was blue white. His eyes had dark circles under them. I'd never seen anyone on drugs before. His breathing was on the verge of hyperventilation. His roommates were huddled together on the living room floor watching Steve go through the frightening throes of spiritual oppression. Steve yelled, “Can you see them crawling all over me? Get them off of me!” He held out his arms for me to examine as he stared into my eyes for recognition that I saw the demons too. I saw various demonic entities on him as well as many others throughout the room.
As I looked into the young man’s eyes, I calmly answered, “Yes, I see them.” God has opened my eyes in the past to see demons. Each time the Lord does I feel a surge of power shoot through me to take authority over them. This time was no different. The Holy Spirit instructed me to separate Steve from his roommates by going into another room to pray for him. I guided Steve into the room and shut the door. As I stood before him, I said, “I know the Lord Jesus will fight for you. He loves you deeply. He won’t let go of you.” I put my hands on his chest and prayed, “Father I come to you in Jesus name. I ask you to release Steve from the hold of Satan the Dragon. In Jesus name I take authority over the principalities and dark powers that are here. You’ve been uncovered. Take your hands off of Steve and leave by the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross. Leave now!"
Then Steve began praying. “Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart. I surrender my music, my posters, drugs, and my life into your hands. I will serve you all the days of my life. Save me from hell.” As he prayed I noticed his heart began to beat at a much slower pace. His skin returned to a healthy radiant glow. Within a matter of moments he was smiling and in his right mind. The effects of the drugs were instantly gone. Joy and relief beamed from him. This wasn’t the same person who opened the front door ten minutes ago. Within a couple of moments, his roommates knocked on the door and asked if they could come in. They told us at one point during our prayer time, they saw demons jumping out of the room we were in and into the living room. This frightened them so much they were willing to come into the room where the “light” was. I understood they weren’t referring to light created by light bulbs, but the light of Christ’s presence. They sat down on the floor with Steve and he began telling them about Jesus and the freedom he just experienced. Before the morning was over, the roommates received prayer also. This was the start of Steve's new beginning. Now he is a devoted Christ follower and Dragon Slayer, too.
