Wedding at St Lukes Church, Kew Gardens. in June 1927
In the Church of England marriage banns must be published on three succesive Sundays in the parish Church where the persons live (this custom is about to change)
The bride is accompanied by her father in the last carriage. The father leads the bride to the alter. The bride groom has made his way to the church before hand with the 'best man'. The chief bridgesmaid occupies a place behind the bride to hold her gloves, handkerchief and flowers. The other attendants arrange themselves close by.

An Old Wedding Blessing. anon
May God be with you and bless you,
May you see your children's children
May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

The ring is thought to have originated in ancient Egypt, where it was made of hemp or vine. The ring could be replaced when ever it wore out. The Romans later adopted the custom of them being of iron. In the fifteenth century the British replaced the iron ring with gold. The custom later associated with the doctrine of the Trinity. In the ancient ritual of English marriages the ring was placed by the husband on top of the thumb of the left hand with the words'in the name of the Father' he then removed it to the forfinger saying'in the name of the Son' then to the middle finger adding'and the Holy Ghost' then he left it on as is now on the fourth finger with the closing words'Amen'

My mother meet my dad when she was twenty three, they married when she was twenty seven and dad thirty one. They wanted a place to live with furniture before they married. Their first home was a flat in Barnes near Richmond.

Anniversary
The vows we spoke
So long ago,
Were words said as we
Loved each other so.
Now the years have
Quickly gone
Leaving our memories
To ponder upon.
Holding hands,being
Young once more.
Looking forward to the
Years in store.
Silver days and golden hours
On this Anniversary of ours.
