My Mother, My Guardian of Love
My Mother, My Guardian of Love
Did you know God had a plan?
Right from the first beginning
To bring us close together
So we both could end up winning
First he made my heart one day
Then placed it in your care
With tenderness and love he knew
You’d always say a prayer
God gave the gifts of love
He knew that you would share
Bestowing health upon you
Knowing you’d take it from there
You taught my heart to love
With all the kindness that you gave
You taught it how to fight real fair,
Stand tall and just be brave
You taught it how to bear all
The tribulations in this life
You also taught this heart of mine
To be a loving wife
With knowledge you bestowed upon
This tender heart to never be harsh
Or ever be unkind
Small gifts that you bestowed upon
This growing heart in me
Became the gifts I’d pass along
To everyone I meet
Sometimes I wish we were not quite
So very far away
With wings we could take up in flight
And visit every day
To see the love in both our eyes
When you would look my way
Or to get a good-night kiss
Like the one you always gave
But now I have a husband
And two children I’m to raise
It’s nice to dream sometimes or
Just remember childhood days
And late at night near bedtime
I will pass along your gifts
I never let them go to bed
Without their good-night kiss
I pass along your loving gifts
You gave so tenderly
Because it’s all that I have left
To give to them you see
If I could ask for one more thing
I’d ask you for a prayer
Thank God above for all the love
You taught me how to share
For your kindness and your caring
That you passed to all of us
For giving and for caring
You bestowed without a fuss
For teaching us the love and care
God sent from high above
But most of all for giving us
A guardian of love
And even though we can’t come home
The memories will sustain me
No one can take my home away
Because it’s where God sends me.
