What Church
WHAT CHURCH
“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
John 10: 9, 10
King James Version
I have lost count of the emails that I have received over the last three and a half years asking me what church I attend. Yet, only three of those people who sent me emails asking me what church I attend cared enough to ask me if I was saved. O dear people, going to church will never save us. Instead of asking someone where he or she goes to church, we need to be asking the person if he or she has accepted Jesus into his or her heart as his or her personal Saviour.
Writing devotions will never save us, singing in the choir will never save us, preaching a sermon will never save us, writing a book will never save us, playing the piano or organ in church will never save us. There is only one way to be saved and go to Heaven and that is through our precious door, the Lord Jesus Christ. Unless the blood of our loving Saviour is applied to our hearts for the forgiveness of our sins, none of us will be saved and go to Heaven. It is not what we do that saves us; it’s what He has done for us on the cross of Calvary that saves us.
Several years ago during a Sunday morning service after my Pastor had finished preaching, he gave the altar call for salvation, to answer the call to be a missionary or to rededicate our lives. On that beautiful Sunday morning, I witnessed one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen, something that brought tears of joy to my eyes and to my heart.
The lady was who playing the organ, who is a very dear and precious friend of mine and has been for several years, stopped playing the organ, got up and walked down the aisle to the altar. As she knelt there, sobbing and brokenhearted, she told my Pastor that she had a head knowledge of Jesus but she had never invited Him into her heart to be her personal Saviour and she wanted Him to come into her heart and save her. My Pastor had tears of joy in his eyes as he led her to accept Jesus into her heart.
We need to stop asking people what church they attend. Instead, we need to ask them if they have ever made a heart commitment to Jesus. However, before we ask them if they have made a heart commitment to Him, we should tell them how much Jesus loves them, and that He loves them unconditionally. Then, and only then, will they be receptive to hearing the good news of a risen Saviour.
I will never forget the first time I was told that I was loved. That wonderful day was August 14, 1980, the day that I accepted Jesus into my heart as my personal Saviour. He told me on that day that He loves me and that He loves me unconditionally. He has told me that He loves me every day since that day. I just turned sixty five years old last month so I went most of my life without knowing that I was loved. I can’t stress enough how urgent and how important it is to tell people that Jesus loves them and that He loves them unconditionally.
Are you saved? Has the precious blood of Jesus been applied to your heart for the forgiveness of your sins? Have you made a heart commitment to Jesus and opened the door of your heart to Him or do you only have a head knowledge of Him? Don’t let satan deceive you into thinking that just because you are doing good things that you are saved.
Again, I ask you, has the precious blood of Jesus been applied to your heart for the forgiveness of your sins? How tragic it would be if Jesus were to come back for us even while you are reading this devotion and you are not ready to meet Him! Don’t let that happen to you. Swallow your pride, admit that you are a sinner and invited the Christ of Calvary into your heart now.
