Do You Need Something To Drink

DO YOU NEED SOMETHING TO DRINK

“Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”

Isaiah 55: 1

King James Version

There have been times when I didn’t have any water that was safe to drink due to hurricanes.  My neighbor had to bring me bottled water to drink because I don’t have a car and couldn’t go get water that was safe to drink.  The water that he brought over tasted so good because my mouth was dry and I was very thirsty.

However, that bottled water could never have quenched the thirst in my heart for love, acceptance and companionship.  It took my precious Saviour to quench the thirst in my heart.  He not only gave me love; He gave me unconditional love.  He accepted me just as I was.

I didn’t have to clean myself up first.  In fact, I couldn’t have cleaned myself up and neither can you.  It takes the precious blood of Jesus applied to our hearts to make us clean from the stench and filth of our sins that stink in His nostrils.  Without the cleansing atoning blood of Jesus, nobody can be saved and go to Heaven.

Thank God for the blood of Jesus that takes away our sins!  Thank You, dear Heavenly Father, for sending Your beloved Son into the world to take away our sins.  Thank You, Jesus, for giving Your life for us on the cruel cross of Calvary so that we may be saved and live with You in Heaven for eternity.

On August 14, 1980, the greatest day of my life, Jesus Christ of Nazareth , who willingly hung on a cross of torture and anguish  for me and died for my sins walked through the door of my heart.  He had been knocking at the door to my heart for many years but I had rejected Him.  I had acknowledged Him verbally and had even walked down the aisle many years ago when I was a teenager.  However, I wasn’t really saved then.  I didn’t make a heart commitment to Him.  I only said that He was the Saviour of the world.

One Sunday morning when I was a teenager, my pastor gave the invitation for salvation after he was through preaching.  I walked down the aisle, knelt at the altar and prayed the sinner’s prayer but I only did it because I didn’t want to go to hell.  I didn’t really understand that I needed to repent of my sins and stop doing the things that I was doing and living the way I was living and start following Jesus and allow Him to lead me and put me on the path that He wanted me to be on.

I didn’t open the door of my heart to Jesus that day and invite Him into my heart to be my personal Saviour.  I said that He was the Saviour of the world and had head knowledge of Him but not heart knowledge.  I was baptized that night during the church service.  When my pastor put me under the water, I went under as a dry sinner and came back up as a wet sinner.

Until we open the door of our hearts and invite the Christ of Calvary into our hearts, we are sinners and on our way to hell for all eternity.  We read in the Bible   “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3: 20).

On that glorious day, I opened the door of my heart and invited Jesus in to stay, not to visit, but to stay forever.  He came into my heart to become my personal Saviour that day.  He has never left me since that day, not even for one minute.  I’m ashamed to say this but there have been a couple of times when I left Him.  I became so involved in my daily activities that I put Him on the shelf and only took Him down when I needed something.

I think if you will be honest with yourselves, there have probably been times in your life when you put Him on the shelf and only took Him down when you needed something.  May God forgive us for the way we treat His beloved Son!  One day, every person who has ever lived will stand before a Holy God and give an account of the way we treated the Saviour of the world.

Are you thirsty today?  You have tried everything to quench the longing in your heart for love, acceptance and companionship but you’re still thirsty.  Your spouse, your family and your friends can love you but they can’t quench the thirst in your heart.  Only Jesus can satisfy the deep and thirsty longing in your heart for unconditional love, for acceptance and for a constant companionship.

There are times that we turn our love for our family and friends off and on like a water faucet but Jesus loves us unconditionally and He always will and He will never stop loving us.  Open the door to your heart and let the Saviour of the world quench the loneliness and the thirst in your heart for unconditional love, acceptance and companionship.
