GOD KNOWS
By Minnie Louise Haskins 1875-1957 Warmley Bristol which incidently is just a mile from where I live now.
The first 7 lines used by King George V1 during his Christmas
Broad cast to the nation at the outbreak of world war 2 to lift the
Spirits of the people. And used at the Queen Mother’s funeral on 30th March 2002 although not read out.
I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year,
‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’
And he replied ‘ Go into the darkness and put your hand
Into the hand of God that shall be to you better than light
And safer than a known way!’
So I went forth and finding the Hand of God trod gladly
Into the night. *
And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day
In the lone East.
So heart be still what need our little life
Our human life to know, If God hath comprehension?
In all the dizzy strife of things both high and low,
God hideth his intention. God knows. His will is best.
The stretch of years which wind ahead, so dim to
Our imperfect vision, Are clear to God. Our fears
Are premature; In him all time hath full provision.
Then rest: until God moves to lift the veil from our
Impatient eyes, when as the sweeter feature of life’s
Stern face we hail, Fair beyond all surmise God’s
Thought around His creatures our minds shall fill.

The following verse is Anon unless you know otherwise and was part of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's funeral.
You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she's gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
