Activities / Meetings / Special Events
OBCHE offers a range of educational and recreational activities for the home-educating family. We do not expect every family to participate in everything, but we hope most will find things which benefit them and give them an opportunity to interact with other homeschooling families.
Annual MeetingsInformation Fair
Our first meeting each year is our August Information Fair, which allows opportunities for parents to talk with experienced home educators, obtain or turn in membership-agreement forms, sign up for specific tasks, and much more. Children may accompany their parents to our Information Fair, if necessary.
Parent Meeting OBCHE's Parent Support Meeting is held each Spring. This meeting is generally held on a weeknight around 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
Concerning Children While this support group is dedicated to strengthening and encouraging you as a homeschooling family, we are not able to accommodate children at parents' meetings. Although this particular support meeting is for parents only, there are activity days and field trips planned especially for students. Nursing infants and lap babies, of course, are welcome in all meetings.
Specific information about these meetings, including their times and locations, is included in our monthly newsletters and on our website calendar.
Activities
OBCHE sponsors many group activities, including:- Park Days
- Crafts
- Chess Club
- Theatrical and musical events
Specific details may be found in each month’s newsletter.
Parties
Each school year, we have three parties: Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and a Summer Blast-Off at the end of each school year.
Special Events
Other special events allow students to share what they've learned with friends and family members, present projects, or compete:
Participation in these events (i.e., having a display, being a contestant) is considered a privilege of membership. Exceptions may be made by the Special Events Coordinator or the director of a specific event.
Moms Night Out
Our moms meet on the last Monday evening of each month, barring holidays, usually at a member’s home. Bring a dish to share with all, and be ready for lively conversation! MNO provides a great opportunity for homeschooling moms to get together (and away from the kids for awhile!), share and compare ideas, and get to know one another. See the current monthly newsletter for details.
