Hello, my name is Brian Wyatt and this is my wife Melissa. I was raised in a Christian home, attended a fundamental Baptist church, and graduated from a good Christian school. Around the age of ten, I made my first profession of faith as a result of a sermon that I had heard about Hell. I did not fully understand salvation and was just afraid of going to Hell. At the age of fifteen, I became involved in sinful habits, which followed me throughout my high school years. During a chapel service in school, I rededicated myself to the Lord, but what I really needed was to get saved. Two years later, I felt that it was time to turn over a new leaf in my life. I was at home reading in the Bible about how God called Moses to serve Him. After reading this, I strongly felt that the Lord was calling me to preach, so I surrendered to preach in my parent’s bathroom. Immediately I began preaching, teaching Sunday school and even going soul winning. Yet, I still had not been born again. This continued to go on for the next two years. I was your average, hard working, “nice guy.” I loved my wife and kids, had a good job and took my family to every church service. Whenever I thought about life after death I had no fears at all. After all, I believed in God and Jesus and I thought I was a pretty good person. I felt that if anyone could end up in Heaven, I probably would. Then came the shock of a lifetime! Let me explain by asking you a couple of questions…
Have you ever lied? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever looked with lust? Jesus said, “whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, by your own admission, you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart; and we’ve only looked at three of the Ten Commandments.
What a shock! God did not see me as the “nice guy” I imagined myself to be and he does not see you that way either. Isaiah 64:6 tells us that in God’s eyes, “we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” Nothing we have ever done is hid from His holy eyes. The Bible says that the wages or payment of sin is death in eternal Hell.
But God loved us so much that He sent His Son to take our punishment: “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus then bodily rose from the dead on the third day and defeated death.
Your own so-called “goodness” cannot get you into heaven any more than mine could. If your goodness could save you, Jesus would have died in vain. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.”(Titus 3:5a) He is the "Door," the only "Mediator." There is no salvation in any other name.
June 6th 1999, God brought me face to face with the fact that I was a Hell deserving sinner and I could not save myself. I was religious, but lost. That night, I made my way down to an altar and did as Romans instructs: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9) In the fall of 2002 I began attending Calvary Baptist Bible Institute in Greenwood, South Carolina. I graduated from Calvary in the spring of 2006 and began pastoring here at New Hope, June 4th 2006. My friend, are you willing to repent of your sins and accept Jesus Christ as the Lord of your life? If you will ask Him, He will forgive you and save you. You have no guarantee of tomorrow. What a tragedy it would be for a good person like you to die and go to Hell. Please call on Him today.
I would like to extend an invitation to you to visit our church.
It would be a great blessing for us to meet you!
