Lutherans allow openly gay pastors

CHICAGO, Aug. 11
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), America's largest Lutheran body, voted Saturday to allow homosexual Lutheran clergy who are in sexual relationships to serve as pastors. The ELCA passed a resolution by a vote of 538-431 at its annual assembly in Chicago urging bishops not to discipline pastors who are in "faithful committed same-gender relationships."

1Co 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
1Co 6:10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

"That is huge," said Phil Soucy, spokesman for Lutherans Concerned, a gay-lesbian rights group within the church. The ELCA, with 4.8 million members, previously allowed gays to serve as pastors so long as they remained celibate, Reuters reported Saturday.

The conference also instructed a committee that is developing a social statement on sexuality to further investigate the issue. The committee is scheduled to release its report in 2009.

Since the ELCA was founded in 1988, it ordered three pastors in gay relationships to be defrocked. The most recent case was decided in July when the ELCA's committee on appeals voted to remove an openly gay pastor from St. John's Lutheran Church in Atlanta.

The gay clergy issue has split other faiths, including the Anglican Church.

Vatican: Other denominations are not true churches

Religion News Service

KEVIN VANN VATICAN CITY -- The Vatican on Tuesday reasserted the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, calling other Christian churches defective and saying Protestant denominations are not even churches "in the proper sense."

The statement, which was "ratified and confirmed" by Pope Benedict XVI and published with his approval, reiterates some of the most controversial ideas in a Vatican declaration published in 2000 under Benedict's authority when he was still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.

Tuesday's four-page document purports to correct "erroneous interpretation" and "misunderstanding" of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council of the 1960s, which paved the way for ecumenical dialogue between Catholics and other churches.

The new document said Vatican II "neither changed nor intended to change" the teaching that the "one Church of Christ ... subsists in the Catholic Church" alone. Other Christian denominations, it argues, can also be "instruments of salvation" but "suffer from defects" insofar as they depart from Catholicism.

Eastern Orthodox churches, though lacking communion with Rome, nonetheless deserve the term "Church" because their priests follow in the succession of bishops and priests that started in the early church, the document says.

Protestant denominations, however, "because of the absence of the sacramental priesthood, have not preserved the genuine and integral substance of the Eucharistic Mystery" and are therefore to be termed mere "Christian Communities."

The statement brought swift criticism from Protestant leaders.

"It makes us question whether we are indeed praying together for Christian unity," said the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, a fellowship of 75 million Protestants in more than 100 countries.

"It makes us question the seriousness with which the Roman Catholic Church takes its dialogues with the reformed family and other families of the church," the group said in a letter.

Georges Lemopoulos, deputy general secretary of the World Council of Churches, on Tuesday reiterated a 2006 WCC statement that said no church is "simply a part of" nor "the whole of" the universal Christian church.

One Protestant theologian with long ecumenical experience called the document a necessary clarification of Catholic doctrine that could actually promote communication across denominational lines.

"It's an occasion for Catholics to explain their own faith and doctrinal life to others in ways that others can understand," said Ann Riggs, who directs the Faith and Order Commission of the National Council of Churches. "It's always an occasion for more dialogue, not less, to have to explain, 'what do we mean by this?'"

Fort Worth diocese

Based on the limited, informal information that he saw Tuesday, Bishop Kevin Vann of the Fort Worth Diocese said there was nothing new in the Vatican's statement. The bishop did not expect to be able to get a copy and review it for at least a week because of travel commitments, said Pat Svacina, the diocese's communications director.

Wow! What arrogance and gall. There is so much wrong with the Catholic Church it is overwhelming. First thing that I have noticed is that it doesn't seem to even be about Jesus Christ as it is more about glorifying men and women.

Almost every Catholic teaching (accept that Christ is the Saviour) is heretical. I lump Catholicism with the heretical teachings of Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses. This religion has put men and women in Christ's place.

The scriptures say; For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; (1Ti 2:5), yet they encourage their followers to pray to Mary the mother of Jesus (not God) as well as pray and worship assorted saints with assigned powers or attributes.

Sounds a lot like idol worship to me and not unlike the pagan Roman's, Greek's, and Egyptian's worship of multiple gods in ancient times. These ancient people had a god for everything. A god of love. Another for war. Others for arts and crafts, beauty, grain, fire, sleep. You name it they had a god for it. And the same is true about Catholicism. Look up their list of saints and you'll discover these so called saints have attributes assigned to them by the Vatican. So if the Catholic believer needs help for, lets say diarrhea, they would call on the appropriate saint to help them with that.

They give God's glory to a man they call the Pope, whose office by the way, can not be found in the bible. Elders and Pastors and Ministers and Deacons yes, but no Popes.

They even use the inaccurate and whimsical and historically errant and spiritually deficient books known as the Apocrypha to teach and edify their clergy and followers. These books are not canonized or recognized as God inspired, God breathed writings and are not included in true Christian bibles.

In this religion the first two commands God gives us are ignored. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. And; Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them. But many followers of this religion bow down to images of Mary all the time.

This by definition is a pagan religion and not Christian. Just because you include Jehovah, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit into your plethora of deities does not make you Christian nor saves you from the wrath to come.

Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name
done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Be warned, any religion that says that they are the one true church or that they are the only church that anyone can be saved into eternal life is a cult and you should run as fast as you can away from them. READ YOUR BIBLE AND STUDY IT FOR YOURSELVES.

Hate Crimes Law: A Real Threat to Your Religious Freedom

Sign our petition to Congress today

Dear Roderick,

As we reported last week, Congress is considering a "hate crimes" law that would authorize enhanced punishments for crimes committed because of various reasons, including sexual orientation. If the law passes in the near future the federal government will be empowered to investigate and punish politically incorrect speech and thoughts.

Think it can't happen here? Consider what has happened in Oakland, California, where the following words disseminated through the government’s open email system and employee bulletin board have been deemed inflammatory and perhaps even a hate crime: “Marriage is the foundation of the natural family and sustains family values.”

Please take a few minutes to read the insightful commentary about the Oakland case by columnist George Will titled, "When marriage became a 'hate crime.'" (copy & paste in your browser)

The federal "hate crimes" legislation - H.R. 1592 and S. 1105 - appears on a fast track to passage unless you act today. It is a threat to your freedom of speech and your freedom of religion.

Boycott continues to drive Ford sales down

Company ignores stockholders and dealers, supports homosexual agenda

Dear Roderick,

Ford Motor Company sales for the month of June dropped 8 percent compared with sales during June 2006. Ford sales have gone down in 14 of the last 16 months. While the boycott isn’t totally responsible for the drop in sales, it has played a major role.

AFA has identified Ford as a leading promoter of same-sex marriage and the homosexual agenda. AFA began a boycott of Ford in March 2006 after Ford reneged on an agreement with AFA to cease their promotion of the homosexual lifestyle. More than 720,000 individuals have signed the AFA sponsored Boycott Ford Pledge. For more information on the Ford boycott, and to sign the pledge,

Ford continues to financially support homosexual groups despite the massive sales drop and a loss of millions for the company’s stockholders. Dealers and stockholders have asked that the company take a stand similar to that of Wal-Mart which will not support or oppose controversial issues. Chrm. Bill Ford has refused to establish such a policy, choosing to continue financially supporting the homosexual movement.
