SPIRITUAL BALANCE
How can a Christian live a balanced yet fruitful Christian Life? Maybe it sounds odd but many christians today struggle with frustration; some are defeated and others have become neurotic. Of course, many christians are experiencing victory and know full well the joy of their Lord. But we must help those who are trapped in confusion and despair.
It is now secret that the call to follow Jesus is a high calling, and one that requires total dedication. It is a supernatural calling to live above the elements of this sin-polluted world. One must have both WISDOM and POWER to live a God-honouring life: The wisdom of God and the power of God. Jesus said that there is but one thing that can set you free."And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32)
Only the truth sets people free, but it must be the whole truth. Taking a verse out of context or neglecting some verse on a particular subject or idea will give you a distorted picture. Half truth tends to be more dangerous than outright lies. People will more readily accept a half truth. This will cause you to get off track one way or another. You will have become SPIRITUALLY UNBALANCED.
A LIFE OF LOVE
The christian life is a love relationship with Jesus Christ. You become so engrossed and captivated by the lover of your soul that you gladly do whatever He asks. It becomes your heart's desire to please your Master. Without this relationship the Christian life becomes joyless, difficult and very discouraging.
NOT A BLUEPRINT -The Bible is not a blueprint or a rule book. We do not have a daily check list by which we mark off points. We have been given Spiritual PRINCIPLES, not POINTS. The Bible gives us basic guidelines for our life. We have a basic goal, not a mapped-out plan. The goal is to become like Jesus;"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the first born among many brethren". (Rom. 8:29)
God is a creative God and has given us creative power. We have been given power to change situations: "Verily, verily,l say unto you,Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it to you." (Jn.16:24)
Hezekiah was to die, he prayed and his life was spared. God was going to destroy the children of Israel, Moses prayed and God changed His mind. God was also going to destroy Nineveh, Jonah preached to them, they repented, and again God changed His plans. There are many other examples found in God's Word that reveal the power of prayer to change situations and events.
THE FIRST COMMANDMENT is to love God with all our hearts, soul, strength and mind; the second is to love our neighbour as ourselves. (Lk.10:27). The cardinal rule is love. It is not simply a matter of keeping rules and regulations. Rules and regulations may be necessary but they can change from one situation to another. You must learn to become FLEXIBLE and ADAPTABLE.
DIFFERENCE IN CHRISTIAN GROUPS
Christian churches or organisations do things differently. Some are quite strict while others are more liberal. All groups have certain principles or regulations they adhere to.Sometimes these principles are necessary, and other times it may just be done out of habit. Yet, when Christians work closely together it becomes necessary to set up certain regulations. This is done for the purpose of harmony and to achieve some specific goals.
Maybe God has called you to work with a particular group. You must be flexible and willing to adapt. It is good to have strong convictions but always be adaptable. You may disagree entitely with what is being done or how it is done. Love will cause you to remain quiet and keep peace and unity. Try to see the MAIN PURPOSE for which God has called you to this group. Keep that purpose in mind and overlook their faults.
By and by the spirit of God guiding and guarding your ways will bring what is a spiritual balance in your fellowship with individuals and God. God richly bless you.
