Great Commission for People Development and Orphans (GCPDO) is a non-governmental, Christian humanitarian development organisation based in Zambia.

Based on the Christian faith, GCPDO with Christ compassion work for the poor in a world in which the people realize their potential in societies that respect people's rights, regardless of political affiliation, gender, religion and ethnicity.

For sustainability, GCPDO cooperates with other Christian organisations, community-based organisation and other non faith organisation with similar vision in the areas of emergency relief, long term development projects to address these common challenges:

► Fight poverty
► Protect the environment
► Advocacy for injustice

GCPDO is currently working in Eastern Zambia and work with local communities as beneficiaries and cooperate with community based organisations (CBOs). GCPDO cannot implement its programmes without funds. The funds are comprised of contributions from partners, goodwill and well wishers individuals.

Development Strategies /Intervention
GCPDO’s development strategies/intervention focus on forming people’s groups within communities as self-help, farmers, income generating, youth groups, community development committees and neighbourhood health committees.

GCPDO is currently working in Eastern Zambia and by the year 2005 extending to Mozambique and Malawi as the people in the two countries face same problems as their neighbouring Zambia.

Partnership
GCPDO is working in partnership with Woord-en Daad-Netherlands.

Current Activities
► The programme is supporting over 400 orphans and vulnerable children by provision of basic education.

► Established Mndemba Community School for those children who were out of school. 168 children were enrolled in 2003, and Mndemba Community have moulded 60,000 bricks to construct 1 x 3 block classroom.

► Support 500 households by providing agriculture inputs (seed) and extension training sustainable agriculture.
