How to PrayHow to Pray
Expressing our love for Him and abiding in His Presence
PRAYER… Jesus taught us how to pray the “Our Father” prayer, and
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man that avails much”... James 5:16
A more Biblical slant could be to address God in confession, forgiveness, repentance, petition, submission, intercession, spiritual warfare, prophetic declaration, thanksgiving, adoration, praise, worship, and most importantly living everyday, or abiding in God’s love and presence, body, soul, and spirit. God’s word declares: “I have not given you the spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind (the mind of Christ.” “I will keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Me,”
Confession... is making sure that your heart is clean before God by giving the Holy Spirit time to convict should there be any unconfessed sin. Then repent and ask the Holy Spirit to quicken you in times of temptation and ask Him to help you to never sin again. 1JN.1:9Pray that He lead you into all righteousness.
The more we yield to the Holy Spirit, the more He shows us new dimensions of His glorious overcoming loving and keeping power. Like Eph.5:25-27, I have a hunger and thirst to know Him as His future bride which is without spot or wrinkle, holy, pure and unblaimable in His sight and to spend intimate time with Him. What bride is not sold out and in love with her groom? What bride would knowingly cause a breach in her love relationship with her future groom? Like Moses at the burning bush, we hunger to behold His glory, to know Him intimately and now we must take off our sandals because we have left this world, the flesh, and the devil to live on Holy Ground. There is a highway that we are traveling where nothing (Ps 91) can touch us because of whose we are in Him and who He is in us not to mention where he is leading us. Is.35:8-10
I am now thinking of my own precious children who would crawl up in my lap, put their arms around my neck and give me the biggest hug they had ever given me. It would bring tears to my heart, as I wanted to return that hug and to give them anything their hearts desired that was good for them and within my power to give them. Is not our loving Father in heaven the same? What does scripture declare but that if we being evil know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will our loving heavenly father give us anything we need? As we give Him our love, our time, our first fruits (waking moments of the new day). It is His good pleasure to give us the Kingdom. Will He not open the windows of Heaven? Jn.15:7. Will He not tell us of things to come? Jn.16:13. Will He not show us the deep rhema in His word? He may even call us to go out and lead someone to Him by love, by prophetic word, or by testimony. He may even warn us of impending disasters, but above all we must never go to Him in prayer and not give Him a chance to speak to us. Jesus never did anything nor did he say anything unless He heard or saw the Father do or say it. Jesus was in perfect agreement with the Father in everything He thought, everything He said, and in everything He did. How much more should we do the same?
Forgiveness has already been covered and I am sure you understand what I am saying about the rest of that prayer...
Jesus said to his followers, "A little while and you will not see me, and in a little while you will behold Me. And in that day you won't ask Me anything anymore". The word for ask in the Greek usage means to investigate. Jesus is saying that for over 3 years I've been here with you in the flesh and you've investigated Me and for all of your investigation, you still don't understand a word I'm saying, so I have got to go away for a little while (shatter your worldly vision) and of what you think I'm about, and let you grieve for a little bit, and when I come back in a different form, you will have a new revelation, your thought processes will be transformed, your old worldly views will be shattered and when I come back risen from the dead and appear in your midst, you won't ask me anything anymore, but you will know who I am, and where I am, and there you will be also. But in order for that to happen, you've got to go through tribulation (mans heart breaking learning process).
Now we will go into the realm of the spirit and see if God will show us the next step in our quest to an intimate relationship with Him.
Exodus.25 The first revelation of coming into His presence can be seen through the pattern of the Tabernacle of Moses. In type and shadow Jesus is the way, the truth is the Holy Spirit, and the Life is the Father. In reality you cannot separate our God into different beings because He is one. We enter His tabernacle from the world or the natural wilderness into His gates with Thanksgiving in our hearts. We enter His courts with Praise. Experientially we can fast to humble our flesh and soft worship music to increase the dynamics. Entering through the “Way gate” into the outer court we approach with joy the brazen alter; a place of death to self (flesh), death to the world, and death to any and every evil influence; to say not my will but to say Lord God, only Your will be done in my life. We are crucified with Christ; never the less we live to offer up our bodies as a living sacrifice which is our reasonable service. It is the dying of our fleshly, worldly, and devilish ways that brings forth Him. But wait, there is a beautiful brazen laver with water in it for the priests to wash and cleanse themselves before entering into the next court. At the laver we should pray Gods logos word so that we are praying in total agreement with His word and His will for His chosen ones. Praying the word is not only praying in agreement with Jesus’ intercession for us, but in agreement with our loving heavenly Father. The bride of Christ is preparing herself to be the beautiful, holy, without spot or wrinkle, totally unblamable reflection of Jesus by the washing of the water of the Word.
We are now ready to enter the Holy Place led only by the Holy Spirit of truth. God's not looking for golden vessels, nor silver vessels, but for yielded vessels. My prayer at this point is “Lord prepare me to be your sanctuary.” This entrance can only be transgressed by the leading of the Holy Spirit. The whole reason to enter is to draw closer to God. Very early in the morning I rise up to meet Him in a secret place. I turn on soft very special worship music of Jereme & Connie Sinnott, “Come away my beloved” to usher me into the presence of God. If my mind is cluttered I get a pen and write down those thoughts and lay them aside so I can come back to them later. It takes about 5 minutes to stop my mind from wandering so I can really enter into the singing love songs (prayers) to our loving Father God. After I make my requests known to God, His gracious heart of love starts drawing me closer into His presence...My prayer language starts to kick in. I am asking the Holy Spirit to pray the will of my loving heavenly Father through me for today’s challenges. Can you feel His tangible presence? Do you want to become the temple of the Holy Spirit, to be totally possessed by Him? We enter the truth gate through a dense curtain as the priests did so long ago to find on the left hand a beautiful golden Candlestick. It was their job to trim the wicks, make sure oil was full in this lampstand because it provided the only light in this 10x20x10 cubit room. Jesus is the light that shines in this world. Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit at birth without measure. The Holy Spirit is the power or oil burning to bring forth that shimmering light that shines in this room. On my right hand is the golden alter of showbread (manna from heaven provided by God for the Hebrew children to eat while they were in the desert.) which is symbolic of the Word of God. The Holy Spirit’s power and the Word made flesh light is there to turn the logos Word into a Rhema Word that brings chills down our spine as God lifts the curtain and reveals His plan for us in this day and hour of our lives. The light also shines as the Holy Spirit leads us to pray only for His desires not ours. My prayer is "Holy Spirit, pray the will of the Father through me." This shimmering light from the candlestick also shines on the golden “alter of incense” at the far end of the room. It was there so long ago that the priests would offer up burning incense made from special oils, spices, and fragrances symbolic of our prayers that ascend to God as a sweet smelling savor in His nostrils. It is here that our prayer language can be used to edify our soul and spirit to pray not only for those things that we know about but also those things we are unaware of. "Come Holy Spirit of God and pray the will of the Father through me for needs and problems that may be hidden from my site or knowledge or that may come about in the future.”
At this point in my prayer time I am very focused on the author and finisher of our faith. Can you hear His still small voice? Then when God speaks write down every word, meditate on it and thank Him for the wonderful experience with Him. Hallalulah!!! It is now time to worship and adore Him in Love, in Spirit and in Truth. It is now time to enter into my loving Abba Fathers (Daddy’s) living room even the Holy of Holies. This room was divided by a curtain which is refered to as the life gate. Only the High Priest could enter this room and only once a year to sprinkle the blood of the Red Hefer sacrifice on the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant to make atonement for the sins of Israel ( the Hebrew people). There is only one piece of furniture in Gods living room. It is the Ark of the Covenant. Atop the ark was an area between 2 angels called the Mercy (love) seat. As I draw closer to Him He draws closer to me. I am in awe and must keep focused on my goal. I must not let any distraction stop my progress. It is here that I come as a little child and crawl (in the spirit) up into my loving heavenly Fathers lap to tell him how much I love Him.
My heart is to let God do for me that which I cannot do for myself...
A humble and contrite heart He will not despise. I know I am his child but I am so grateful for all He has done for me. Can you hear the sound of angels singing? I dare not make a sound now. I can feel His wonderful love, something sacred, something holy, something wonderful is about to happen. I want to see His face. In my mind I know He rewards those who diligently seek Him. In my heart I feel a burning desire to see His face and to hear His voice speaking to me. I am so grateful for the feelings of love in my heart for Him. There is thanksgiving in my soul as I draw near to Him. A tremendous hunger and thirst for more of Him as I feel His love fill my soul. Holy Spirit; "take me all the way to my loving heavenly Father is my desperate cry." My heart is on fire, burning with love for Him. I enter His throne room. I am undone. I glimpse out of the corner of my mind’s eye at the glory that fills this room. I reach out like a child to his loving Father, for Him to pick me up. A yearning to crawl up into my loving Daddy’s lap and lay my head on His shoulder and give Him the biggest love hug I have ever given Him consumes me. I feel a love and security that I have never known before. "Daddy God, I am complete in your arms of love." The things of this earth have grown strangely dim. Nothing matters any more. "I am being saturated with Your love and the joy bells of my heart are ringing. There is no place I'd rather be than in Your arms of love holding me near. It is here that we come as a little child and crawl (in the spirit) up into our loving Daddy God’s lap to tell him how much I love Him. Now is the time to give Him the biggest hug in the spirit I have ever given Him in my entire life. His arms around me hold me close, I am undone. Nothing else matters. I dare not think or say anything else but I am here to listen to His voice, and to see what He is doing, and to express my love to Him. I gaze on His Glory. I dare not utter a sound. Nothing can be allowed to spoil this moment. I must wait to hear His voice. I am constrained by my love for Him to love on Him with all of my heart, with all of my soul, with all of my mind and with all of my strength. We also must love our neighbor, and even our enemies. It is here in the secret place that we are truly changed into His image and likeness. My senses are filled with all kinds of awesome feelings of life, love, hope and goodness. I hear a still small voice. I am listening, hanging on to every thought being imparted to me. He is showing me things (like golden nuggets of truth) in the bible to share with His people. He is giving me His Rhama word for my life for this day and hour. He is giving me a glimpse of things to come. Jn.16. He is showing me who needs an encouraging word and who I need to minister salvation to today and who needs His love the most. He is all in all at this moment. I am undone.
How much do you love Him for taking your sin upon Himself to set you free? What more could He have done to make us righteous in our loving heavenly Fathers sight? Now ask yourselves if there is anything that takes precedence over your love for Father God?
Jesus said, ”This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”
Radical lovers are radical in their obedience to God. Jesus said to His disciples: “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”
This is my story, this is my quest; to love God and His children is all I want to do today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life. To love… is what living is all about. The rest is just wood, hay, and stubble. Everything about living well and good and right is wrapped up in dwelling in the arms of love, receiving His love and giving Him away to everyone we meet. To love our fellow man is to feed those that are hungry both food and the gospel of Love. To love is to give drink to the thirsty praying for them to receive living water from the King of Kings. To love is to give strangers a place to spend the night, for you may be entertaining angels unawares. To love is to cloth the naked…To love is to visit the sick and pray over them the prayer of faith that they may be healed…To love is to visit those in prison revealing the gospel that sets them free. “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.”
Then Jesus passed His love on to His believers by telling us “whose sins you shall forgive; they are forgiven. Who’s sins you retain; they are retained.” This scripture enables us to forgive and set free even the worst rebellious sinner. Then at the end of all things comes His laid down lovers unearned reward. Matt. 25:31-46
To love is to be an overflowing fountain of living water. To love is to know the joy from loving others and the Prince of Peace that passes understanding, especially in the midst of a storm. To be a love giver is to serve others. To love is to give, to be love is to be kind, Jesus said, “This is my commandment, that you love one another that your joy may be full.” To love is to make this world a better place by being a loving friend to all. To be a loving person is to release a smile, a kind word, or a compliment to a stranger; to bless someone with a gift or be a good tipper in the restaurant. To love is to create a little Heaven everyday while still here on Earth. To love is to be the wonderful loving child of a loving God, sharing Him (His love) with everyone you meet. In your home love is being a loving caring parent, a loving child honoring your parents, a loving tender honoring spouse. To love is to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes before inspecting his fruit. To love is to care for those in trouble, and to be the beautiful loving person that God has always wanted us to be. To love is to be a good listener. Tough love is to not listen to gossip or negative talk about another, but to speak life and love and blessing about and over everyone. To love is to be a creative life giving prophetic voice for God in whatever comes out of our mouth. To love is to be the bright and shining loving soul that God meant for us to be before sin entered in.
More important than everything else, let’s fill our mornings telling our loving Creator how much we love Him. Ask Him to show you who needs His love through you the most today. Then pour out to them what God, who is love, has poured into you...
There’s a new Kingdom we are hearing about with a new gospel of love. God is leading His laid down lovers into new dimensions of His glory. What does it means to be a true Christ man or woman and to go and be where not many men have ever been before? The Son of God became the son of man that you might become a Son of God...
I go to the mirror and look at the image of a man. I am thinking in my heart of hearts that I want to have the kind of love in me today that Jesus had when He was on this earth and no matter what happens bad today; I choose with the help of the Holy Spirit to respond in love. I believe that love and compassion is the power that activates and drives our faith to do awesome things that would, in the natural, be impossible. Let me put it this way; if faith was a 20 foot in diameter search light, then love would be the electricity that gives it the power to shine. Now I am thinking of the scriptures: "Christ in me the hope of glory." "It is no longer I that live, but Christ lives in me." Could this flesh house the Holy Spirit and be His temple? Could this mean that everywhere I go today; God goes? Could it be that everything I do today; God does? Am I not the temple of the Holy Spirit? Have I renewed my mind in the word of God, by reading and soaking in God’s word and do I now think like Jesus? Do I now possess the mind of Christ? This flesh cannot really possess anything but as a yielded laid down lover; He possesses me? Can I really say like Peter and John? "Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have, give I thee. In the Name of Jesus of Nazareth...Rise and be healed." Do I really have something in me to give away to someone, so that like Peter and John I am qualified to declare; “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise and be healed?”
