Memorial Day 2007 Observed with Flags at Revolutionary Graves . New American flags were placed Memorial Day 2007 weekend on local Revolutionary War veterans' graves. The graves were those located and marked in past grave marking events by the Coweta Falls Chapter. Members participating in the purchase and installation of the new flags were Joe Walters Sr., Dan Gates, Hugh Rodgers, Bill Hay, Bob Galer and Neil Gillis. Flags were replaced on ten graves in Muscogee and Harris counties.
Richard Christmas Grave Marking. Richard Christmas was memorialized by the Coweta Falls SAR Chapter in a ceremony on Saturday, April 28th, 2007. A veteran of the Revolutionary War in the South who migrated to Georgia after war-time enlistment in North Carolina. The grave marking ceremony for Richard Christmas was at the family cemetery on County Line Road in the community of Midland (Columbus), Georgia. The North Carolina patriot, his wife Mary Roberson, and family had moved to Midland in Muscogee County after winning Georgia land lottery.
Coweta Falls Chapter President Jim Weatherford, Sr. was master of ceremonies and was produced by Bob Galer, Graves chairman.
Other chapter members involved were Georgia State Society Chaplain Dan Gates who rendered eulogies, Chapter 1st Vice President Nelson Kittle who presented the chapter wreath, Chapter Past President Bill Hay erecting the chapter banner and in the Color Guard, Charlie Bausch and the Boy Scouts of Troop 107, Neil Gillis, Tom Porter of the Color guard, Billy Thompson, Wayne Cartledge who did the programs and the photos, Joe Tarpley, and Charles Hall, and Chuck Hall.
Also in attendance was Charlie Newcomer of Athens, GA., President of the Georgia Society of SAR who gave Dedication remarks and presented a State Society wreath. He was accompanied by the Commander of the Georgia Society SAR Color Guard and representative members from the State of Georgia.
Joining in wreath presentation were Sarah Dorsey of Fayetteville, newly-elected President of the Georgia State Society, Children of the American Revolution, the Lucy Spell Raiford CAR Society in Columbus, and Button Gwinnett CAR Society of Fayetteville; the Oglethorpe, George Walton and Augustine Clayton chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Piedmont and Coweta Falls chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution. Mary Thompson of Oglethorpe chapter gave a biography of each veteran. Members of the Lucy Spell Raiford CAR participated in costume.
TAPS was rendered by Sergeant Luilani Ballard of the U.S. Army Infantry Band at Fort Benning.
