How to Join

Joining Coweta Falls Chapter
Sons of the American Revolution

First, why join at all?

Pride!

Pride in knowing you have a direct ancestor, a Patriot Ancestor, who fought for or supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774-1783.
To help educate the public in preserving the memory of those who sacrificed for our American independence and freedom.
The SAR and the DAR are "lineage" societies which means each member has traced his/her family tree line back to a point of having a Patriot Ancestor.

Where Should You Start?

Contact the genealogist of the local chapter to guide you as a prospective member in the development of your lineage to a patriot ancestor. Any member can introduce you to our genealogist.

Information needed:

You do not have to provide all of this information at once, but in order to begin, we need a minimum of information.
 Your full name and birth date
 Your wife’s maiden name and birth date
 Your marriage date
 Copy of your birth certificate and marriage record
 Children’s names and birth dates
 Parents’ names and birth dates
 Any death dates of individuals listed
 And as many locations of all events as you know.

Also any other information you can provide will be helpful.
 Any lineage charts
 Family papers and books
 Birth and marriage records
 Wills and/or estate settlements
 Obituary and death certificates
 Pictures of graves
 Family member who is a SAR or DAR member
If a family member has information already on file with the SAR or DAR (from an earlier application), you need not submit it again but simply refer to the earlier application.

We must prove a connection to each generation by a vital record. This may require ordering copies of birth or death certificates, marriage records, wills, estate settlements, deeds, etc. When we finish, you will have a genealogy record of your ancestors, leading back to the American Revolution. The small cost of tracing your lineage is well worth the effort for establishing your Revolutionary line. Also, if we are successful in proving your “Blood Line” to a Revolutionary Patriot, it will be registered for your descendants use and safekeeping.

To join, the National, State, and Local initial registration costs and dues are $130.00, then $50.00 dues per year thereafter.
