This & That

From humble beginnings a church was formed in 1928 when Brother Albert Dingus, along with eight other believers, saw a need for a place to worship and praise the Lord.  Over the past eighty years many souls have come to know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through His mercy and grace at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church.

Only seven exemplary men of God have been called to pastor the church beginning with Brother Bob Powers who served from January to July of 1928.  Brother Wade Powers was elected next with Brother Albert Dingus serving as assistant pastor.

After two years Brother Dingus became the pastor.  He served from 1930 to 1984 except for a brief period in 1944 when Brother Clyde Huff led the church.  For 54 years this humble, wise, faithful and loving man was the devoted pastor.  Over fifty men were called by God to preach the Gospel under his ministry.  He was instrumental in organizing the Letcher County Conference of Freewill Baptist Churches and gaining membership into the John Thomas Association.

In 1978 Brother John DePriest became co-pastor along side Brother Dingus.  He became the full-time pastor in 1984 and served until 1996.

The duties of the pastor were assumed in 1996 by Brother Ralph Vicars who served until August 6, 2008.

Brother Bennie McCall  became assistant pastor in December 2007.  He began his tenure as pastor in August 2008.
