Jonah
God's appointments for Jonah
God told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and preach to the people against their sins, but Jonah ran away from the Lord. Jonah went down to Joppa, paid the fare and took a ship to Tarshish to flee from the Lord. The Lord had other plans for him though. You see the Lord sent a great storm to the sea and the wind was blowing so hard that it almost blew the ship apart. The sailors were so scared that they began throwing alot of luggage over board to avoid drowning. Jonah was asleep downstairs and the captain of the ship came to Jonah and asked him to pray to his God so they would not die. Then the fellows on the ship cast lots to see who had caused this terrible storm to come upon them. Jonah told them he was a Hebrew running from God and asked them to throw him overboard. Instead they tried rowing harder but after awhile they saw that would not work and threw him overboard. The Lord appointed a large fish to swallow Jonah up. The bible tells us he was in the belly of the great fish for 3 days and 3 nights. Then Jonah prayed, {see whole 2nd chpater of Jonah to read his prayer to the Lord}. Then the Lord commanded the fish and it threw him up onto dry land. Then the Lord told Jonah for the 2nd time to go to Nineveh, which was a 3 days walk from where he now was. After all there were no buses, cars, trains or planes. Jonah obeyed the Lord and preached to the people of Nineveh against their sins. The people repented of their sins and believed God. Then Jonah was angry that the people repented of their sins and asked the Lord to take his life. Jonah went east of the city of Nineveh and sat under a plant that the Lord appointed. The plant covered Jonah from the sun and he felt comfortable there, then the Lord appointed a worm to eat the plant and once again Jonah was angry. Then the Lord appointed a hot east wind and Jonah felt like he was going to faint from the heat. Once again he begged the Lord to die. The Lord explained to Jonah that he should have had as much compassion on the people of Ninveh as he had for a plant. Did you notice how many times the Lord appointed something in Jonah's life ? He does the same thing in our lives if we are his children, through faith in his son Jesus Christ. If you would like to become a child of God right now, simply pray to the Lord and say; Dear Lord, I know I have sinned and that Jesus died for my sins and took the punishment I deserve and gave me eternal life free. It is the gift of God , not of works . I receive Jesus and ask him to come into my heart right now. Amen Be sure to tell someone that you received christ into your heart. God bless
