Elijah's runs away
1 Kings 19:1-21 Elijah had a victory over the enemies. Then Ahab told Jezebel all about Elijah's victory. Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah threatening his life by the next day. When he saw what she said he got scared and ran away to Beersheba which is in judah and he left his servant there. He went a long long way away where he felt he wuld be safe. He traveled a day and a half. He sat under a broom tree and prayed and asked the Lord to take his life. Then he took a nap under the tree.As he layed there under the tree the bible tells us that an angel of the Lord came to Elijah and told him to get up and eat. Eliajh got up and ate the cake and water and went back to sleep again. Again the angel of the Lord came to him and told him to eat because the journey was too much for him. In other words, he was worn out. Afterall he traveled a long long way. Remember too back then he did not get into a car or take a plane, there was only travel by animals or foot power which means he probably walked, which means he was tired out from the long trip he took. He got up and eate and drank and the bible says he went in the strength of that food for 40 days and 40 nights. He went all the way to Horeb the mountain of God. He went into a cave when he got there and slept in the cave that night. The word of the Lord came to him and asked him what he was doing there. The Lord was trying to get Elijah to talk to him about how he felt, and all his feelings of being alone in his zeal for the Lord. He told the Lord how he felt alone and afraid and that his enemies wanted to kill him. The Lord told him to go outside and stand on the mountain. The Lord passed by , but he wasn't in the wind or the earthquake or the fire. But he was in the still small voice. So Elijah finally realized the Lord wasn't in all the commotion of life, but he was in the quiet place. When Elijah heard this wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave, where the Lord asked him what he was doing there. I think the Lord had soemthing for Elijah to do, but he let him eat and drink and rest and seek him in the still small voice before he sent Elijah out the do what he wanted him to do. The Lord told him to go to Damascus and anoint Hazael as king over Syria. Also to anoint Jehu as king over Israel. When someone was anointed it meant usually they put oil on the persons head and this was to prepare them for the work the Lord had for them to do. The Lord talked to him about the details of what would happen to people that went against his people. The bible tells us that there were still 7000 people that did not bow down to worshop baal the false God. So in other words Elijah only felt he was alone when he told the Lord that he alone was left. In other words when Elijah was afraid he felt he was all alone and noone else cared about worshipping the Lord, but the Lord made it clear that there were still 7000 people of his there. So Elijah went to do what the Lord wanted him to do. Isn't it neat how the Lord let Elijah rest and eat and rest and eat again and then showed Elijah that the real place of peace is found in prayer and close commune with the Lord. It is also true that sometimes when we get tired and depressed we feel alone, but just as the Lord showed Elijah he only thought he was alone, but there was actually 7000 more people of the Lord's. Do you ever feel that way too? Read Hebrews 13:5... I will never leave you nor forsake you. That is God talking here in that verse. that is what he is saying to us today too, when we feel alone or scared like Elijah the Lord is still with us. He reminded Elijah of that fact and he reminds us of that fact too in Hebrews 13:5
