Dr. David Jermiah "I need your prayers"
I need your prayers! In just a few days, I will be releasing my 28th book. The book has the title Signs of Life and it is a challenge to all of us to look beyond our own needs and begin to focus on the needs of those around us. As I write this email... nearly 1/2 of the world is living in moderate to severe poverty 16,000 children are dying each day from starvation- 1 child every 5 seconds! 39.5 million people are living with HIV/AIDS more than 12 million African children are newly orphaned from AIDS; number expected to rise to 18 million by 2010 our public schools are in the worst shape they have ever been in 65% of Americans rate economic conditions as fair to poor Perhaps you are wondering what that has to do with you. After all, these problems are not your problems. But they are all of our problems. We have been called by our Lord to love our neighbors as ourselves and the Bible defines a neighbor as anyone whose need we can meet! I am convinced that we are missing part of God’s plan for our lives as believers. Just look at our churches! The modern evangelical church is built around the idea that we have been called to meet the needs of each other. While it is true that we are to encourage one another and build one another up, we have forgotten that our spiritual strength is to be leveraged against the needs of the world to which we have all been called. In other words, we are to meet each other’s needs on our way to meeting the needs of the people who don’t know Christ. We are to be salt and light in the world ... not in the church! Over the years of our lifetime, we have more and more turned our focus inward toward ourselves instead of outward toward others. The Signs of Life book that will be released in major book stores on October 2nd is an attempt to help us to focus on our decaying culture and, instead of seeing it as an obstacle to the Gospel, to begin seeing it as an opportunity for the Gospel. I am convinced that many of the problems that are consuming the human and financial resources of our churches would begin to go away if we could get our eyes off of ourselves and onto the needs of the godless world in which we now live. There is so much more I would like to say in this personal communication with you. I have written the rest of it in the book which motivated this letter. Now back to the beginning! Here is where you come in! I am asking you to become a part of the prayer team that under-girds the release of this book. The success of this initiative will be decided by what happens between September 15th and October 15th. I can promise you that Satan has already marked those dates on his calendar. He will do everything within his power to obstruct, delay, and ultimately destroy this effort because he knows the power that rests in the fulfillment of the Great Commission and the Great Commandment.
