What is Search Engine Optimization?
Summary of “What is Search Engine Optimization?”
Are you wondering what SEO stands for or what search engine optimization really means? Search engine optimization, also referred to as SEO, refers to doing the work involved to improve your rankings with the search engines for your targeted keywords. In this video, Kurt Steinbrueck, Director of Marketing Services with OurChurch.Com, explains what is search engine optimization and what you can do to improve your site rankings.
Have a Readable, Optimized Site
You need to make sure that the search engines are able to read your site. Search engine bots are not able to read graphics and they are also not able to read flash. There are certain settings that make it difficult for search engines to index your site, and having unreadable code can make it difficult for search engines to navigate your pages and read your site. You will want to check your setting and make sure you code is readable by the search engines and in good form. You can also help the search engines better read your site by creating Title and META tags and providing them with keywords that tells them what your site is about. Creating tags and including keywords in your content is known as on-page optimization.
Gain Site Authority
When other sites link to you, it acts like a vote or recommendation to the search engines that your site can be considered as an authority for your keywords. The more links you have from other sites to your site, especially if they are links from other established, authoritative sites, the more authority you will have with the search engines. The best way to get links is to put out great content and do a great job with whatever it is that you do.
Get Social Shares
Social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and Google plus can affect search rankings. This is relatively new, but it is something to consider when doing SEO.
