A domain name is a website address like www.ourchurch.com or www.mysite.com.  If you get a hosting package with a domain name, you get to choose your domain name.  Free sites do not have a domain name and use longer website addresses like www.ourchurch.com/member/c/ChristianWebsite/ (you choose the last part of that address, the "ChristianWebsite" part).
