What Is a Web host

Summary of “What Is a Web host”

Paul Steinbrueck, co-founder and CEO of OurChurch.Com, has created a series of helpful videos to answer common computer questions.  In this video, Paul answers the question many of us have had, “What is a web host?”

To keep things simple, a web host is basically space on a computer where the information to run your website is stored.  The computer acts as the web server and as long as the computer is on and connected to the internet, it can serve up your website to visitors who find their way to your site.

So, can I host my own website?

You can, but it is not always reliable.  If you turn off your computer, your web site would no longer be available to visitors.  Even if you have a dedicated computer that remains online at all times, you still run the risk that a power outage will shut down your site.

Is there a more reliable option?

Yes! A web hosting company, like OurChurch.Com, offers reliable web hosting.  At OurChurch.Com, our servers are housed in our data center, which was built to withstand tornado force winds.  We also have a back up diesel generator to keep your site running in the event of a power outage, and we have tech support in our data center at all times to monitor the hardware.

So you also offer technical support?

Yes! At OurChurch.Com we want to help you achieve your mission and goals online.  For us, that means offering superior customer service, so we do not contract our tech support overseas.  We’re here when you need us!
