There are two general options for setting up the look of your Beacon Website. You can select a template for your site, or you can customize any of the template elements listed below individually. If you select a template, each of the elements described below will be automatically set for the particular theme you select. If you choose to customize your website beyond a stardard template, the information below will be useful in helping you configure each element.

Graphics
The following layout options allow for the selection of various graphics used throughout the website. You can use your own custom uploaded graphics by selecting the "* Custom *" option to the left and then selecting the filename of the graphic in the box to the right. You can also use the graphics from any of the standard templates by simply selecting them on the left; however, mixing graphics from several different templates generally looks poor.

  How do I switch templates?

From your webmaster page, choose "Edit Colors and Graphics." Then select a template from the dropdown list.
How can I change a graphical element?

On your first visit to the "Edit Colors and Graphics" page you will see this sentence: "If you wish to use custom graphics and colors in your website please click here." Clicking on the link takes you to a selection of all the available site elements.
What if I want to omit one of the graphical elements?

From the dropdown list in the left column, choose "* BLANK."
How can I use my own graphics instead of the ones shown?

You must first upload your graphics. Then you can choose "* CUSTOM-->" from the dropdown list on the left and your own custom graphic from the dropdown list at right.
  What is the Background Graphic?

This graphic is "tiled" to make up the entire background of every page. That means it repeats indefinitely, both vertically and horizontally. Be sure to eliminate the "seams" if you use a custom background graphic. For example, this is the background image for the template "Music Blue."
  What is the Bar Graphic?

This graphic serves as a horizontal divider on various pages. For example, this is the bar graphic for the template "Music Blue."
  What is the Bullet Graphic?

This graphic is the small image used to mark the sites on the Links page. It is also used for each item on the webmaster page. For example, this is the bullet graphic for the template "Music Blue."
What is the Map Button Graphic?

This graphic links to a map. It is used exclusively on the homepage. If you don't want a map link on the homepage, you can set this to "* BLANK." For example, this is the map button graphic for the template "Music Blue."
What is the Counter Button Graphic?

This graphic links to the hit counter page. It is used exclusively on the homepage. If you don't want a link to the hit counter, you can set this to "* BLANK." For example, this is the counter button graphic for the template "Music Blue."
What is the Guestbook Button Graphic?

This graphic links to the guestbook. It is used exclusively on the homepage. If you don't want a link to the guestbook, you can set this to "* BLANK." For example, this is the guestbook button graphic for the template "Music Blue."

Colors

I don't understand the color information shown. How do I know what combinations of letters and/or numbers to put in the box for each color?

The color values follow the standard six-digit, hexadecimal RGB format. If you have JavaScript enabled you can see some examples. Click on the palette icon and choose a color to see its hexadecimal value:
