As you might imagine, the first day of the Clickathon was a very busy one. I sent out an announcement to everyone subscribed to the OCC announcements distribution list. Kurt distributed a press release through several online press release services.
We also added a tell a friend script to the Clickathon web page, which makes it very quick and easy to send an email about the Clickathon to someone.
The responses we received yesterday have been interesting and run the full gamut. Here’s a sampling…
- One person send a message saying he had added a link to the Clickathon on all 8 of the websites he manages.
- One person chastised us for “not taking care of our own” (meaning Americans) first.
- A Kenyan man who works in the hotel food services industry and offered to donate catering services to Springs of Hope.
One of the things I had hoped to be able to do each day was post the number of clicks and amount of money raised so far. We’ve run into a bit of a snag with that, though. The official click count we’re going by is being tracked by Marketing Pilgrim, the site hosing the viral marketing article people click to, and I don’t have access to their stats. I’ll see if maybe they can provide some stats periodically during the campaign. I sure would like to know and I’m sure you would as well.
For the time being, though, I can tell you that yesterday we had 281 visits to the Clickathon page and $25 of direct donations from visitors. That’s less than I had hoped for the first day, but there’s plenty of time and opportunity for this to grow exponentially, so please continue to spread the word.
On a personal note, my wife and I will be heading out this afternoon for Fort Myers (FL) where we’ll spend the weekend on a little anniversary weekend. I’ll take my laptop, though, and probably won’t be able to help myself from posting updates. BTW, if you know of a great church in the Fort Myers area (preferably one where we would be welcome to worship in shorts or jeans) let me know.
If you have any comments or suggestions, please post a comment and let us know.
